Hello all,

I bought a second hand TS as a cheap runaround. The timing belt is rattly and it leaks a bit of oil from the rocker cover (have done the gasket and it still does). The alternator and everything around the 2.6l engine is a bit oil soaked from the leaks over time before I bought. I have done an oil change and found the oil was the worst I'd ever seen. I have replaced the spark plugs also. After replacing the spark plugs with appropriate 0.8mm bosch plugs the thing seemed to misfire more. I more often than not have the battery light on and it feels to me as if the alternator is on the way out. I was told to check the alternator terminals but it's right next to my oil filter; making removal of the screws painful without taking the filter off.

All that noted, the biggest problem is every so often the car will stall when stopped or slowing down. I cannot get the thing going again. I pop the hood and jiggle all the electrical connections and it still won't start. I push it off the road and try start again and sometimes it will start and other times it seems after a bit more playing around it comes good. Anybody had this problem and found a solution? Thanks.

The thing is a bit of a bucket of crud, done 240,000 but exterior is ok.

clean the dissy plug where it plugs into the dissy
(they corrode or wire pins break )
change the fuel filter
open the boot at night in the dark
to check the leads and coil isnt arcing

recheck the timing

if its got fuel injection it can also be the idle speed control unit

Fuel pump and ecu relays, the little box for these are located under the glovebox, is an anodized unit

Being a TS will be EFI

It could also be the fuel pump itself
Had that problem when I had my 2nd gen
