View Full Version : EBAY - Diagnostic Scanner
I have been grazing on EBay and found reference to the following:
Mitsubishi diagnostic scanner OBD2 diagnose M608 reader. The description says this unit is suitable for Mitsubishi engines only. The unit is chinese and they say is is suited for 12 pin or 16 pin OBD II. I recall somewhere someone saying that you need the MUTT system to properly read the codes.
I have asked questions to the sellers, but had suspicions as to their answers. Has anyone tried this unit and does it work? Thanks in advance

going by your profile you have a TF so if thats the case you won't need one as they are don't use obd2 i believe but someone will correct me if i'm wrong.

Does anyone have any solid info on the protocol Mitsubishi uses? I know they've made some modifications to the OBD II protocol, is it the same as what EVOs use?
I've considered playing around with some electronics but it would be a world easier with a documented protocol rather than busting out a logic analyser and scope.

I've got a OBD II with bluetooth on my XTRAIL and it won't work on the KL Verarda (won't even plug in).

I'm pretty sure obd2 didn't come in til the 380 series.
I am still grazing and have found another unit which the seller says is suitable for Honda, Toyota , something else AND MITSUBISHI. He is in Sydney and I am going there next week, so I will take the TF Magna and try it. If it works, I'll let you all know because you may find it useful (Hopefully you don't need it, but if you have it, you won't need it and if you don't have it, you will .... sometime)

wont work champ
Gremlin:
That is what I expect to find, but the guy has offered to let me try one before I lay out the money, so all it will cost me is a minor detour to his place and a bit of time. My time costs me nothing. As stated, I'll let people know if it works. All I expect is to be able to read and reset the codes (including, according to the blurb, ABS, ECU and a lot of others), so it will be interesting to see the results.
You car use MUT not OBD so no luck. Don't bother wasting your time
Samm and Gremlin:
I was aware of potential problems with MUT but I am going to Sydney anyway and it is only a 2 or 3 km detour, so I'll try it out anyway. What should I expect? If there are no error codes, maybe I won't get anything showing up? This unit says it checks the ABS andOxygen sensor and the blurb shows it displaying a graph of something, so hopefully the guy can demonstrate it to me. The EBAY ad specifically says Mitsubishi 96 on, but then qualifies it by saying not models are compliant. I also have a NL Pajero but when I tried a scanner with that it didn't work either. Not sure if it was the scanner or lack of OBD compliance which was the problem. Either way, it isn;t going to cost me much in time or fuel to check it.
Well guys, I went to the EBay seller on Monday en route to Sydney. He plugged his scanner into the socket and it went through the tests, but showed nothing. This is what my old scanner did as well. He reckons that you have to have a fault before the scanner can pick it up. If the Check Engine light comes on, I can already get the info from the car's diagnostics anyway (by shorting out the appropriate pin, so if that was all it could do, then I wasn't interested. Apparently the scanner can control lots of parameters on later model cars including Magnas from 2004 on, but not old TF Magnas. I didn't buy the scanner, but it was worth the 3 km detour to find out.
Yeah have a search for EVOSCAN. I believe that software can be used.
Samm:
I saw that this scanner thingy had what looked like a USB cable. IF it did, and I suspect that is has from reading the brief EBay description, a USB port, you reckon that the EVOSCAN will connect to it (via a computer). What does EVOSCAN do?
From what this EBay guy said, I would have to wait for a Check Engine code to come up before this device would show anything. Does EVOSCAN do much more than this? I have googled this and haven't really resolved anything. It is after all hard to fix something when it ain't broke. On Monday, I had driven most of the way to Sydney on petrol (it was about time that I used up some of the tankful I had instead of gas which we normally use). The car was idling terribly - screaming to 2000 R/Min, then almost stalling, then back up. After about 15 minutes of idling whilst the EBay guy fiddled trying to find and connect the scanner, the engine resumed normality and it ran perfectly then. However, all this time the Check Engine light didn't come on except when the ignition was first turned on. In other words, it was misbehaving (at idle) yet not fault was being found. Smooth as now. Interestingly, the blast on petrol seemed to clear its throat really well. On our return home yesterday we faced incredibly strong headwinds and even though I was pushing it (slighlty above the legal limit), economy on petrol and gas was amazing.
To sum up, as everyone said, the scanner wouldn't work unless I had a fault for it to show, and if it did have a fault then I can find it via earthing the appropriate pin and reading the long/short flashes. If the EVOSCAN does more, it may be worth buying. Is this your opinion?

ive got evoscan and an openport 1.3u cable, bought for a JDM Mitsu .
its only really good for looking at live parameters like - battery volts , O2 sensor voltage , RPM , etc. it does not show trouble codes ( DTCs ) and its the latest version , 2.8. even back in v2.5 it didnt show the DTCs.
pretty sure i'm using it properly , another member had a go and said the same thing. its got other uses , like reflashing ECUs so is worthwhile for some things i guess. its gor checkboxes there for ABS support , AYC support which may be corrected in a later version.

I bought the M608 also and it only does the ABS on the KF , and Ive got it to link to a 04 colt , otherwise crap , waste of cash
now just going to buy a Mutt II, and Mitsubishi is getting a new Mutt 3.5 light also Ive heard
Sivart:
How much is a Mutt 11 and where do you get it? I am interested because I have a TF Magna and an NL Pajero - both of which are getting old and (particularly the Pajero) both go to rather remote places, so if eitherof them 'failed to proceed', I would like to at least have some idea of what was wrong.
