Okay so i was trying to get the memory to work on my stereo and connected the Blue wire (from car) to the black wire (from headunit ((Probably a bad idea because its usually earth/ground)) ) and the ignition was on. Now the headunit doesnt work any more after iv put all of the wires back in place to where they were previously. None of the Fuses are blown and the fuse in the back of the headunit isnt blown either. I tested the power with a power tester and i get a positive result when i Touch the 2 power leads with ignition On or Off. But the problem is that it doesnt turn on. Please help ASAP!
Edit: FIXED, Replaced fuse in fuse box under steering wheel, See my last comment for details

You have killed your head unit. - and + don't go together!
Sorry mate but this is why we disconnect the battery before working on ANY electrics in the car. You never know when a positive may touch ground or what you have done here. Unless its a decent head unit throw it away or get it fixed if worth it

Awhh :( is there any way for me to fix it myself. We have connected these 2 wires before and it just blew a fuse. Are you positive its dead
?

Oh and also, The headunit isnt the only thing that shut off.. The speed warning thing, that beeps if you go over a certain speed, that doesnt display anymore, The noise still works if i press + or - but it doesnt display.

Check the fuses for the instrument panels etc, under the steering wheel and in the engine bay. You may have just blown a fuse and you have been trying to wire it into that circuit
Test your head unit by connecting the right wires direct to the battery terminals. Quick test and that will tell you

If its blown a fuse before then why would you connect them again knowing it is not going to work?? :slap:

Would check the fuse in the engine bay
But should never play with electrics while the ignition is on
It is however safe to install a headunit with the battery still connected
Just remember to soldier one wire and tape it at one time before moving to the next wire
You could test it by putting the power on the positive terminal of the battery and the ground on the negative to see if the unit powers up (make sure key is out of ignition)

I was connecting a different wire this time and i have no idea about electrics haha.
Is there fuses under my steering wheel aswell as in the hood?

Okay so the AUDIO fuse is blown (under the steering wheel) But i replaced it just then to test, With a 10 fuse (the same size) The fuse i used to replace it with was the <- -> Fuse, And it made the Speed thing light up but the stereo still no joy.. Anything else i should try?

Test the head unit on the battery first

All of the wires are connected to the headunit though, is it worth Pulling them all out and. They arent put in with a clip they are all seperatly Plugged in to little blocks.

Yeah i figured you would say that. Its the first thing to try so its upto you if you want to be lazy about it

Okay, I will try it, I was just wondering if there was another thing to test before all of that, Il try that now.. So i connect my red (POWER) to the positive and the black (EARTH) to the negative?

What brand is the headunit?

Have you got a test light?
Could unplug the harness from the back of the headunit and poke the needle where the constant power is and acc power just to see if theres any power getting through
If not then theres a 20amp fuse sitting in the engine bay thats for the headunit only

If you know nothing about electricity, don't mess with! All your going to do is blow something up.
There are wiring harness converter you can buy from any automative store. That will get the job done safely :)
Also do a search and it will bring up a few threads about which wire goes where! Failing all this, read the wiring diagram it will show which wire goes where.

One thing to consider in all this.... there is NOT an earth wire in the Magna loom going from car to head-unit.
The OEM head-units used by Mitsubishi are grounded thru the head-unit casing and the mounting brackets.
If you have an after-market head-unit which has an earth/ground wire, you need to terminate this on a convenient bolt or screw under the dash (there are several convenient ones). And I mean a bolt or screw which attaches to something METAL. There is NO wire in the Mitsubishi loom that can be used for an Earth/Ground.
If you know stuff-all about wiring, it might be wise to check for "Aerpro" or other brands of Wiring Loom Adaptors..... these are available to suit most brands af car and most brands or audio - they are a short (say 15cm at most) length of wiring with suitable plugs already made up. They might be $15- on EBay and up to $25- retail..... still cheaper than destroying audio gear by ignorance.
There are wiring diagrams available in the free-to-download Mitsubishi Workshop Manuals at www.lisho.net as well..... so at least you will know wiring colours and what fuse is likely to be fried when you make mistakes..

Last time i checked there are a few earth wires on the looms which the OP could of easily mistaken for the audio loom. For example the cig lighter? etc

Have you also checked the fuse on the HU itself?
Some fuses don't actually look blown also.

RED and YELLOW go to positive on battery and BLACK goes to negative. Give it a go and tell me what happens
