This has probably been posted a million times, but from all the research you do, you never get a straight answer (no pun, my fellow fairies lol)...

But with tax return coming up, keeping options open and thought I shall do some research, and in the process, get my number of posts up as they are quite dismal currently!

So, who here can tell me what price I'd be looking at for 380/Ralliart cams, and then cost of installation or how easy/difficult it is to install yourself or with help?

Thanks :)

Cams start at $400 and generally will be around that level for second hand, good luck though as they are not easy to find

Install, can you change your own timing belt, if answer is no, get it doen professionally...if yes then you can do it

Ok, cool - now fill me in a bit more? How many "cams" do I need? Lol I'm educating myself as I ask here. I had my timing belt changed by a pro, but he only charged me $150 for the whole thing, so I'll go back and get him to do it :P

You will need a set ie a pair :) One for the front bank and one in the rear bank. Plus they are sold as a pair :D

So what, $400 a pair? Is that right? Lol and from what I've read, I'd be better off searching for the Mitsubishi 380 cams (as long as they have a "#7" or "#15"), right?

You want a #15 for 380/ralliart cams

It depends, some say the 380 heads are free flowing others say lowers your compression in the combustion camber :) It up to you which way you go.

Its actually both, they flow much better then 6g74 but you will loose your compression. Unless you replace your pistons to counter that but then really money that you will end up spending you might as well do 6g75 conversion.

why spend money on cams when you can spend a few hundred more and you can get yourself 380 motors for $700 like I have?

Is there a place in brisbane that sells and could install it?

Start ringing wreckers, not too easy to find but they are out there. Installation really is not that hard, any mechanic should be able to do it, quite a few members here already done it, im sure they will be more then happy to let you know what you need to get....

called a wreckers yard :) Just it hard to find 380, so it will be a lot of ringing around :) Then your local mechanic might be able to do the conversion.

one last question :D does swapping the engine effect transmission?

Sparky
28-06-2011, 06:02 PM
no but you may need a different ecu but madmagna has all the answer :)

So someone can simply put a G75 in place of a 74 with just an ECU swap? ie, not wiring or anything?
What if the G74 didn't have traction control etc?

75 engine requires a modification to the magna sump but may be ok if you use HM headers which i think clear the problem area.

Nah, you can get somebody to flash a ralliart tune onto your ECU and you'll be able to run a 6g75

Buying a 380 engine would be a good conversion if it didn't require all the extra rework involved. Buying the cams just requires installation. Ta-da!
