Hello, this is my first post and I'm hoping someone can help me out. I have a 2000 model TF with V6 3.5L engine and auto transmission. About 4 months ago my car started spewing out really strong smelling light coloured fuel smoke. I had the car towed to a local mechanic who rang me and told me the car had gone into limp mode. He claims to have reset the computer and all was good. So I picked up the car that afternoon and it drove like a dream until yesterday when the problem came back. When I start the car it idles rough and spews out strong smelling fuel smoke again.

I have one of those workshop manuals which told me to disconnect the negative terminal for about 10 seconds, refit the terminal, turn on the ignition key and set the computer to the correct settings. I did all this, started the engine, left it run for 10 minutes but still smoking like crazy. What might be causing this issue please? Any help is greatly appreciated as this is driving me nuts

White smoke = steam.
Black smoke = too rich.
Blue smoke = oil burning.

If you start your car from cold in an enclosed space or stick your nose near the exhaust it will smell like fuel - cold engines are not efficient at burning petrol and its normal unfortunately. Even new cars do this.

Rough running - what is your cold idle speed?

Resetting the ECU will do nothing.

Hello trozaq
I'll give that a go. Hopefully that might be where the problem is. Thanks for your reply
