Hi all,
first post :)
I recently purchased an 2006 380 LE and looking at putting in a new DVD/GPS headunit. The current unit is the stock single CD double din model. The headunits I've been looking at have rca connectors and I was wondering how these would hook up when installing the new headunit. Would I be required to installed an amp or do I require some sort of wire harness?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards.

The rca connectors on the back of the HU would only be needed if you were going to hook up an amp. The stock speaker wiring goes into a main harness that plugs into the back of the factory headunit.

The easiest way to install your new unit would be to get a wiring harness converter (AERPRO do these) and convert the plug from Mitsubishi to Generic ISO then to the manufacturer specific plug though in some cases headunits have a generic ISO plug anyway.

Is this the harness I will need?

No mate, that wont do the job. I'd enlist the help of a friend who knows about such magic, or pay the shop you get it from. Sometimes they extend the warranty for you.
I could do write for you.but I am on my phone atm.

I try again. Is this the one I actually need?

I finally got around to installing my new HU. I ended using the APP0111 harness which suited my requirements and made it really simple when installing the HU.

Wow - thats outstanding value, all those features - Xtrons TD713G.

Can you get map updates from somewhere.. They date easily. I am going to run two years before replacing mine.

Edit - check the TD695GD DVB-T

Actually the steering wheel buttons work with this unit, you can manually assign the button to certain functions :)

The unit came with igo8, the maps on there are the latest. I don't believe there is any issues updating the maps, for a fee of course.

There is an igo forum where you can get the map updates for these, I did this for both my JVC and my XTrons units, only dont use the newest whereis maps as the speed zones are all over the show, I have the second oldest versions, no reall issues with finding streets

The plug that Nemisis advised is the correct one and then you use the other half to plug into the head unit

Mate thought I'd give you a heads up, I tried a line converter and all it did was amplify interference/noise. Line converters are designed to amplify a good source signal over long distance, unfortunately in this case all it does is amplify crap.
It's fine if you are using a low powered 4 channel with some entry level after market speakers, but anything over 50wrms you'll notice sound clarity starts to hurt.
I had the 6 inch model (recently sold) and the features were unbelievable, I didn't want to sell it, but I have 1000wrms going through my system and it made me cry to listen to :(.

is there some module thing you can connect to some head units where you can keep the steering wheel controls?

With this head unit no special module was required for the steering wheel controls. I just assigned what function I wanted to each button.
