Hi,
First time post - thanks in advance for any assistance.
Driving along both day and night time in my TJ Magna, I notice the battery light flashes on intermittently and interestingly, sometimes so do all of the other dash lights. In addition, I have noticed at night when this happens, the headlights also increase in intensity - very annoying to other road users who think I am flashing them.
Battery is ok, recently replaced. Car has only done one hundred thousand k's and in good nick. I am very attached to it and have two other Mitsubishi's - Triton's.
Any suggestions most gratefully received.
Thanks
Ian

sounds like your alternator and/or wiring needs attention, some may suggest to whack a regulator in it but thats not the best course of action..... just ask mr_roberto

GET THIS CHECKED BY AN AUTO ELEC ASAP!!!

Seriously though, the battery light is showing you have issues in the charging system, if your lights are normal then dim, it's under charging. If they're normal and then go hyper, it's overcharging. An overcharging alternator can fry your electrics making it a very costly exercise, not to mention the car could stall at any minute and probably wouldn't restart properly. Not the kind of thing you want happening at 9am on a busy highway.

The alternator already has a regulator in it? And usually is the culprit of a bad alternator often requiring replacement/refurbishment.

Hi again,
Very delayed thanks to those who replied.
You were correct, alternator regulator was at fault. Trouble was it was an intermittent fault, only happened every now and then. Only thing I noticed was that the engine had to be hot before the symptoms appeared. Anyhow, eventually overcharging cooked the battery. I then measured the charging voltage = 19.6 Volts ! Replaced the alternator and a new battery, wasn't even game to drive it to an auto electrician. Guess I was lucky no other damage - that I have noticed so far.....
Thanks again.
