Oh me bad, didn't notice TS is asking about oil filter. I'm using K&N part number HP-1008 for my wife 380, it's abit pricey though at $20+ a piece.

A quick question, what kinds gains are expected over a normal filter?

Absolutely nothing, I imagine - seeing it is a "normal" filter. Why do people assume the letters "K" and "N" come with some magical Kw increase?

Ryco Z456 is used on the gen 2 V6, and the gen 3 V6, and the 380. Work ok.

It won't make a difference - if you want clean oil just stick with the genuine filters.

If you want to mod your next oil filter, paint it matte black for extra heat dissipation. lol

And do this . . . . http://www.aircraftspruce.com/cache/150-150-/catalog/thumbnails/08-07394.jpg

The ONLY filters I use on any Magna, Verada or 380, especially 380 is the genuine one

Many of these aftermarket ones which claim to have this and that are rubbish, they are mostly chinese made multifit crap and the bypass valve in them is set to the lowest pressure of all of the range they are made to fit, they can then go into bypass at a lower pressure letting all of the crap in the filter go into the motor

You want clean oil, use full synthetic oil, change it when it needs to be changed, this surprisingly is the best way to have clean oil

Hear Hear - there are some situations where u get what you pay for - and the last thing u want is premature bypass of dirt back to the clean oil side of the system

Most won't believe this but I can remember my now 90 yr old Father doing mods to a ~~~1950 Vanguard (= Tractor engine) to prevent premature bypass of dirty oil back to the clean oil side of the engine -

yes - yes I have had spanners in my hand since i was 5 years old :) a long time ago

and got into trouble for missing one dirt encrusted bolt
on the bell housing / engine connection

I dont care about clean oil I care about oil cleaning and protecting my engine

I got a stack of K&N filters from a friend and they make oil changing a breeze but since my last change I am back to OEM only cause I ran out

Apparently the K&N has a beefed up bypass valve and is supposedly higher flowing than the OEM... weather this is true or not is another thing.

I agree genuine filter and decent oil is best..... i personally think the Mitsubishi genuine oil is also pretty decent.

Mits oil is ok, it is BP lol.....

Many dealerships now use Penrite and have done so for a while now, so this in itself is another plus but getting back to filters, modern day filters are made specifically for a car when genuine, many aftermarket ones are made to be budget to fit a range, they only look at gtasket size and thread size/pitch

I still can not get over people who think saving 4 bucks on a filter is a great thing when the engine is worth so much more. Anyone who has been to my workshop knows I only stock....wait for it....GENUINE filters, and these are the only filters I will use on my customers cars as well as my own. I refuse to use or for that matter fit aftermarket UNLESS I can be 100% sure that they are not multifit, Microfresh is one of the only ones I know of these days that is still a proper z456 and not a multifit
