How often do and for how long do you keep the car in the sun? And would you have any idea if it was painted in acrylic or 2-pack? If you get a spray painter to respray it in 2-pack it should last for years. My uncle is a spray painter by trade and he did an excellent job on my spoiler. He painted it 5 years ago when the car was my parent's and the paint doesn't even look like fading! Just keep the polish up to it if you keep it in the sun a lot

I had one small fade mark on my spoiler when I bought the five year old car two years ago. Now the gloss is gone off most of the top surface. There is a bad painter in Narribri where I got it from. Looking through the used car yards there you can see many of their victims have traded their handy work to get rid of it. I think it would need sanding right back and refinishing.

Washing and polishing/waxing regularly will help (as always), but once something's started to fade, it isn't going to get any better. I'd just get it resprayed...

This.

Exact same thing with the clear coat on my boot!

Its simple maintenance, car needs regular washes & paint protector polish at least twice a year. It a lot cheaper to spend $40 & couple of hours of your time instead of paying hundreds for a respray. I dont buy that whole "my car is the sun" thing, I had my TJ for 10 years now, always parked outside & nothing is fading.

UV from the Sun degrades the clear coat, moisture etc gets to the colour coat and degrades it, but the colour of the coat underneath the clear has a lot to do with how fast this happens and how obvious it is. Just look at the number of metallic painted second genners out there with different colours, you will soon see a pattern. lol The ability of a coat of wax to protect paintwork is pretty minimal. Greens and reds seem to degrade faster, lighter colours do better. Of course, there are plenty of white second genners out there with excellent original paint due to no metallics, no clear coat. Win win!
