Hi there, I have a problem with the ball joint on the end of the drivers side tie rod end.
The castleated nut is turning fine but so is the bolt. The result is I cant either tighten it or loosen it so any advice is welcome.

piece of wood and a jack . place the wood between the bottom of the ball joint and jack . use the jack to putt pressure onto the ball joint . the pressure should lock the balljoint . so you can looseing the nut. i would take the nut off and check the thread. to save hassle,s latter on. as the tread could be stuffed .

the tie rod end needs replacing now
because it is worn on the tapper or has a damaged thread

if no luck with the jack pressure method

you could use an angle grinder with a steel cutting wheel
or hacksaw
and cut the nut and thread off

then fit the new tie rod

Thanks guys,
I thought about the jack thing but wanted to ask first in case I buggered anything else up.
And here was me thinking I could get it registered and on the road on Monday.
best laid plans and all that.

if you check local wreckers. they get good one,s in some time,s. make sure you leave the nut on when removing the tie rod less chance off thread damage. hope all go,s well

Yeah but the problem is most wreckers are in the middle of nowhere as far as transport is concerned. You need a car to get to them.
I got it ok using the jack and wood method and tightened it too. I know it sounds silly but just confirming that its dangerous to drive in this condition?

as long as tie rod is tight on its taper
and add the split pin through the nut
and the lock nut tight

the jack method worked for you

Yep never had the tie rod end off. Had the tracking done on my first sigma in 83 and they didnt put it back properly. The steering went on me as I was going over a bridge. Car just went into a spin and nothing I could do except not panic and hit the breaks too hard. Dont ever want to go through that again especially 30 years on lol

Yep jack method worked. I am just jacked off I have to get another tie rod end.

Thanks people.
