Hey guys, just a quick question.
KJ 2001 Verada Xi, front end accident airbags deployed, is there an error code in the ECU that would prevent the car from starting?
TCL, TCL Off and SRS Warning Lights are on, there is no gear indicator light on in the cluster.

Not at all, I often have these up and running as soon as a battery has been installed as most of the auction ones have flat batteries
Check the fuses in the fuse box in the engine bay, namely the ECU one. Also check the main power fuses as often these get damaged
Also check the main harness running behind the radiator as this can get cut as well, this may stop you from getting the car from running

Battery doesn't seem flat as it was disconnected, sunroof and power windows work fine without dimming the lights at all. Will try another battery though.
I think it's something to do with the gear selector as it's not moving between PRND and tippy correctly, theres no resistance at all from P to R and N onwards. Also in the cluster none of the position indicator lights show up (ie PRND etc) no matter which position the shifter is in... Will pull the shifter apart and have a look.

If the shifter cables have snapped or become dislodged, the gearbox may be in gear and thus stopping the car from starting. Try shifting it into park by hand at the gearbox and see if it starts.

Yea that sounds like it's most likely the problem, will give that a go thanks mate

According to another response by Mal in another thread, there is a cable that runs from the shifter to the inhibitor switch. All gear shifting other than Park is electronic, so I wonder if that inhibitor cable has snapped, been damaged or become disconnected.

It's worth removing the front cam belt cover to see if any broken glass is in & around the timing belt. When my TW was written off (front impact at approx 50kmhr) I found that 3/4 of the width of the timing belt was chewed through/shredded due to the engine running with broken glass in & around the timing belt.
Cheers

impact is on the passengers side so there's pretty much no chance any glass could have got in around the timing belt but thanks for the suggestion

Just to clear that up, the cable is for ALL gears.
You need to use the cable to have the selector to shift from P to R to N to D. The ECU takes care of the other gears such as 1,2 3,4 and if fitted 5.
It also buffers the shift into R as well into D but does not stop this selection if the ECU is rooted.
If your shifter is playing up, simple fix is to remove the battery and battery tray, disconect the shifter cable and pop the shift lever into N, you will see on the inhibitor switch a round allignment hole, this is also on the lever, line these 2 up and that is N.
Defs sounds like shifter cable. remove cable, slide all the way towards the front, 2 down, start car while applying brakes, and slide one down for drive, or one up for reverse (2 person job haha).
