If you can't find the answer, long story short for the problems they can create and the 2KW gain AT BEST with the 3rd gens, they are simply not worth the money, time or effort.

i like my dodgy intake idea.... get a heat gun, take the snorkel off, heat snorkel and make the opening bigger (mainly the bottom that sits above the radiator).

Give it a search, lots of people love pod filters. i have seen people attach extra pipes to the airbox or make their own custom kind of snorkel that picks up air from behind the bumper or near the wheel.

The forum search function sucks, try giving googleing the amc site

Spot on the money, usually you lose torque down low

Magtech you may want to reconsider that heat wrap. Do a quick search on long term effects heat wrap has on pipes, in short it causes premature corrosion. If you want to bring temps down, do it properly and have them coated otherwise you're just pissing away over $500 of your hard-earned.

MagTech
03-07-2011, 08:34 PM
Yeah, I already considered that. That's why I sprayed that heat wrap with silicone based paint to protect the extractors from moisture. Thanks

That may delay it a little, but its still going to rust... You're really best just doing it properly and having them coated. Magna extractors aren't a cheap thing...

My TL had a plastic shield next to the radiator, behind the grille, one bolt was all it took to remove it. Put flexi pipe from air box around battery and in behind grille. Easy to do and all the cool air you want. K&N panel filter helps too. Think there is a pic in my album.

Nice CAI MagTech. i doubt that would be an issue..... I had an EF falcon with a CAI in the same location and it barely got wet even on the worst wet days

He gets his air filter cleaned.. of course :P lol

Looks to be a K&N so that's not a good sign.

Hey Magtech, yours looks very neat and tidy. Where'd you get the hose from?

My TE is an automatic, so you can imagine that 3" stainless steel piping would be hard to fit in on the area between the battery and the radiator fan.
My solution was to use 3" diametre silicone hose on that tight area so it would be easy to squeeze in.
So, yes it's easy to fit behind the front bar.

Hoses were from ebay, the cheapest my money can buy.

question, does anyone know the part number of the k&n airfilter that rpw sell? or is there anywhere else that sell them?

MagTech

If you are interested with the K&N filter on my version 1, just let me know. This is the same RPW is selling. I'm using K&N X-stream filter for my version 2.

Not sure with the measurements as I only do test, then cut. With this cai I spent between $200-250 all in.

Take a look at this thread: http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16688

There are a number of options you could look at, you could either: a) remove the entire factory snorkel & replace with flexi tubing, directed to the front grille beside the passenger headlight as per GTVi's pic; b) retain the factory snorkel and have an additional air feed - to do this, cut a hole with holesaw into the side of the airbox itself, where the air filter resides, and direct tubing from this spot to the grille as per (a)... a couple of ppl with L/Ws have already tried this; or c) cut a hole into the underside of the existing snorkel, and feed tubing from the snorkel to the same location.

With (b) and (c) the tubing will need to be smaller - as there's physically not enough room to use a large diameter tube with the factory snorkel in place. And you will need to cut away a portion of the front of the battery box to make this happen, depending on the size of the tube. If you do this you may want to consider some kind of mesh where the new intake tube will be fitted behind grille, so that you don't suck too much debris into the airbox... I had an additional feed going into my TL for a while and found that I was cleaning the filter pretty regularly to remove insects, small leaves & other stuff. The factory snorkel seems to be better protected from this.
