XF carbi upgrade trouble;

Alright we got it going and it was going real good. now i want to adjust the mixtures and idle settings a little to tweak it. does anyone have the know on these carbis? like ex ford drivers?

thanks fellas

hmm u should take it to a profesional dyno tuning place and get it tuned proply there. my car ran sooo sweet after i picked it up from one of these places... what they do is refit/adjust the main & secondary jets to get the most power/economy at specific speeds on the dyno... 60/100/120 etc, and that pretty much gets it spot on for everything in between i think

u can adjust the idle screws yaself tho.. its easy as :D dont ask me where they are on an XF ford carby tho :P

probly wanna only adjust these when the engine is fully warmed up so the settings r accurate;

idle mixture screw: turn it out (lean) until u can notice the engine starting to stage (engine revs drop on their own), then turn it rich about a full turn.

idle speed screw: adjust it to approx 500-600rpm.. or where abouts the engine seems most happy/relaxed at (not revving too high or too low that its staging again)

remember they're only rough settings tho :)

the carbies on xf's ran a idle solenoid that the electrical terminal breaks off they wont idle without 12volt to the solenoid, there is a idle mixture screw in the throttle plate at the bottom of the carb on the primary side u need a screwdriver with a thin blade to get at the screw as it's down a hole

thanks SG, and thanks benau. I have setup the idle cut off and what i am after is a detailed drawing so i can get to know the carbi without having to take it apart. ive rebuilt carbi's before and know how they work and yet im still stuffed when it comes to this one

hmm is this setup blow thru or draw thru? of course it wont run well straight off, ur taking a carb from a very thirsty 4.1L to an engine in the range of 650cc -1.3L !!! and y o y r u using such a crude carby? surely this will not atomise mixture well enough under boost.

anyway rejetting to suit carbed turbo u want the primary jet tuned for off boost and the secondary tuned for on boost. preferably 2ndary vacuum and not mechanical activated. i would seek advice on a daihatsu forum if i were you to try get advice on jetting.

im thinking surely a late model car like charade would be able to easily get efi for it, turbo and efi with programmable ecu works so much better than turbo and carby, over 1 bar boost blow through and seals blow unless its boxed etc etc...

i think its actually TM-SE-RED posting as turbo_charade :think:

Close, its turbo_charade posting for TM-SE-RED. And the induction noise with that carby/air filter setup sounds tuff.
