Hi everyone,
Im "new" to the forums...... And require some inside knowledge/help for a 94 TS Magna:2.4:4cyl:Manual. I have recently purchased this car which came with a RWC included in the price. After driving only 120kms it is "leaking oil"???? I can see oil @ the bottom, passenger side where the sump & belts are? Also the rocker cover???? I have read through the forums & seen this is a common fault: "Seals". Not sure what "seals", pls advise as to what must be done & the cost to have it repaired? I live on the westside of Melbourne. Any recommendations for DIY mechanics or reputable mechanics who dont screw you over to make a quick buck? Dont have alot of cash (Very tight budget)
help please???
thanks

Private. Only 4 days. The mechanical report for the RWC failed the 1st test due to an oil leak & other issues. When the car was retested it was given the all clear for defects & no signs of an oil leak. All work was carried out by the mechanic befor being re-tested. Obviously you would see nothing after the engine was degreased though! Was going to try my luck with ringing the mechanic & informing him that the job was not fixed yet paid for! But I'm sure that would be wasting my time as they will most likely say no oil leak at the time of retesting???? Job done..

try using silicon oil resistant sealer on the rocker cover gasket
cam seal and half moon seal on the rocker cover
thats cheap from repco bursons or super cheap
if the timing cover seal is leaking
thats more involved

if rwc is same mechanic. dont call them go there. with your rwc. it will, should state where oil leaks are. do you have racv. as they sometime give free legal .if same mechanic . tell them you will sending a conplaint to vic roads as to there rwc,s . either the rwc dodge.all the mechanic is . just my 2,cents

i defiantly agree with doug. first try and weastle the mechanic into fixing it. if he refuses play the 'ill report you' card lol. should make him pay attention. otherwise if he wont do a thing have a look at it your self. depending on you skills its a medium difficulty job. involves dropping the engine off its mounts. part costs $4.50 from bursons. otherwise depending on where you are in vic one of us might be able to have a look see. im not sure but it would be a couple hundred dollar job for a mechanic i would think. anyway first go to coles and but a can of 'sellys degreaser', wash the whole area down and make sure its comping from behind the pully and not from between the timing cover and sump (very common) can tighten the sump bolts a little for good measure.
anyway enough of a ramble

Quick Update............ Well rang the mechanic, I gave him my 2c worth on the RWC & he said......................... Based on VICroads standards/requirements as long as there is no oil leak present @ the time of re-testing it is a pass. However he did ask if it was a continous leak & my answer was "NO" It only appears to be leaking when the car is running.
After playing the VICroad card, he has asked to bring the car in for him to check & fix if it is a (simple) SEAL( free of charge). At worst case scenario it could be a big job? He may have to pull out the gear box?? huh.... What should I be aware if he is playing the DUMB card?.. He did mention the seal.... I guess he might be onto it. Hopefully. Will keep everyone up to date as to what plays out.................. Thanks so far for all the support (excellent knowlegde base)

Hi everybody,
Update on the oil leak........(Sorry for taking so long:doh:)
However.....the oil leak has been fixed!!!
I decided to change the oil & degreased the engine bay a fews days later after the repair. Been running around for the last week keeping a close eye on the repair. And to my amazement there are NO visible signs of an oil leak.
Work Done by ULTRA TUNE:
Inspected & found rocker cover gasket & timing case oil seal leaking badly. Removed & replaced r/cover gasket. Removed drive belts, engine mount & harmonic balancer to replace timing case seal. Degreased engine & tested o.k.
Total cost: $267.00
The guy who carried out the road worthy was hopeless he wanted to charge me for the repair when he 1st said ot would be F.O.C. So I pissed him off reported there work standards to VICROADs who will follow up on the complaint. Hoping to find out what happens? Anyways thanks again guys for all the feed back it has been great.
Later........

thought it would be front seal . if you can check the pvc valve,s arn,t blocked. as they will pressurise the sump and cause more leaks.cam seal ,back off motor is a weak point and allso leaks.
