Hi,

Ive recently bought at 2007 Mitsy 380 db series 2 platinum edition with 81,000kms on the clock.
have a few questions in regards to servicing.. now coming up to its 90,000km service

what do people recommend for servicing intervals? (too little kms or too much kms)
is it really necessary to go with dates rather then the amount of kms

what oil is the best for the engine? (Mitsy say they use Mobil but not sure on exact type)
synthetics to mineral based?

should timing belt be definatly done at 90,000km or is the 100,000km sufficient when it comes to 380's
(i did have a magna that was ment to be done at 100 thou but blew at 92 thou)

thanks

Regarding timing belt. I had mine replaced at 75000km as my car is 2005. General opinion seems to be time before kms. Better to be safe than sorry on this one I think. Replaced water pump at the same time.

The 380 is basically an improved Magna V6 i.e. 6G74 ->6G75. Same rules apply for belts and common sense.
In your case, having one go before, I don't think we need say anymore.

Service intervals as per handbook are fine (every 15000k's, with an oil change every 7500k's if your enthusiastic). As for timing belt, every 100000 is also fine, but dont leave it to long, you can leave oil and whatnot till next service, but its not recommended to leave a timing belt out for obvious reasons.

thanks for the advice.. definatly know not to let the timing belt go over . it cost near 10 grand to fix the magna after it blew that time. not good for the wallet at all.

another question.. been spending the last hr or so reading up on the 90mm intake upgrade for the 380

where can you get this from? i looked up this American dealer but they are no more.

Is there a place in Australia we can get them and how much?
what parts come with it?
if it is just the front piece that goes to the box does the front part of the box need to be modified to take this new front piece?

thanks

Im a fan of 5,000km oil changes.... some people i know do services as per book (at a mechanic) and oil changes in between so it is changed every 5,000kms or 7,500kms

In my car (currently TJ but it would not matter what i had)
i would do 5,000k oil changes on semi-synthetic and 7,500k oil changes on synthetic

Me too, mine's a 2007 Series 2 with 77k on the clock.

I looked into this also. The front does require some minor mods as you wll find from numerous posts and even pictures on this forum.
Most seem to go with the K & N air filter when they do the change.
This is $115.00 in Australia from modyourcar.com.au
You can order from Summit Racing in the USA for $45.00 plus postage.
I believe I've seen one for sale on the forum somewhere.

I hope your enjoying your new purchase as much as I'm enjoying mine.

I do my services 100% by the book (no more, no less). Each to their own, but that's good enough for me - and the car runs fine.

I sure am.. I used to own Magna's prior and did have random issues (one being the timing belt blow well before its due) but still believed Mitsubishi's were good cars.
Never liked the 380's at first, visually the stock standards look a little "granny" type (no offense to the owners here that have the standards - i have changed my initial thoughts now) :)
I did purchase my series 2 platinum based on looks and general condition.. and after reading many good reviews etc on them im definatly glad i got it.
I just hope i do get many years of trouble free motoring.

Grubco: so your saying the 15,000km servicing is fine no need for any halfway oil + filter change? (i did think every 10,000km was a happy medium)

That's up to you. Changing the oil more regularly is surely a good thing... but I couldn't be bothered. Book says 15,000. Warranty covers that. I've had the car over 5 years now, since near-new (ex-demo) and hasn't had any problems at all.
