Hey guys thinking of having one installed soon once the tax man shows his love.

any idea roughly how much i would be looking at and what sort of a gain i may get if any??

as well as a good place in sydney to have the work done?

If you are going to install a CAI think about where the intake pipe will be. If down low next to ground then keep in mind that during floods here in Victoria several people have driven over puddles and hydro-locked their engines.

As far as gains go, it has been proven that you will get none in fact you may lose power. You would be better off spending your money on a set of racing stripes and a fully sick bonnet scoop as they would give you at least 50kw/atw.

Cheers Luke

i love it,

well luckily floods in NSW are not a re occuring factor... especialy not where i live. if there is more of loss than anything what purpose do they serve?? other than running cool air into your engine... if its functioning fine off what i have is there a point?

In some cars the intake is restrictive and opening it up can improve performance & economy.

In (AFAIK) all cars, opening the intake will increase induction noise - this can sound absolutely horny! It can also increase exhaust noise and I noticed this on my stock SPORTS AWD just by removing the intake snorkel.

From what I've read on these forums over the past 2 years, I've learned that in the Magna, playing with the intake can cause the air to swirl or be turbulent in an unfriendly way. This confuses the MAP sensor (? or airflow meter?) and can reduce performance.

So why do it? For some cars, there is a measurable benefit, for some people there is a measureable (audible) benefit, and just maybe, some people may simply obtain satisfaction for the accomplishment regardless of real benefit.

Just my 2c.

The money would be better spent on a postal tune or high flow cat. I was thinking of doing a CAI, but the benefits aren't worth the downsides.
If you really want to do something, DIY it yourself. Grab some fresh air from somewhere near the front, wrap the piping in something to get rid of the heat and a high flow panel.

If i may dump an idea into your thread, i've been wanting to grab a bonnet scoop like GRDPuck(?) and making up an intake to connect to only that as a source of both cold air and ram air, while being high up enough that light flooding wouldn't worry you.
