A step-by-step guide to install the Response remote-controlled LED strips that one can buy from Jaycar. Will only work if lights are on if this setup is followed. That's how I set this up in my car. If another method is used I'd love to hear it :)

Needed tools. Bare essentials listed but one can use specialized tools.
Stanley knife blade (wire stripper preferred), sidecutters, pliers, Philips head screwdriver (preferably magnetic or screws may fall into places where they can't be retrieved from), crimp sleeves for the wires. I used what I listed.

Here are a few important notes to consider BEFORE beginning the install:

* I have my control box from the LED strips under the centre console bin (best location IMO) so I ran the power wires from the box under the centre console next to the shifter assembly. Good idea is to secure the wires to a side of the centre console so they con't get caught on shifter linkages.

** My LED strips that are under the car are attached to my Ralliart sideskirts where there is a fair bit of space and I used home electrical wire plastic brackets that are perfectly sized for the LED strips. The standard plastic covers might not have space to use the screws like I did so another method of strip attachment will need to be devised prior to install.

1) Unclip and remove the centre console top trim so that the gearshifter is exposed.

2) Remove the bin from inside the centre console thats covered by the lid

3) Remove the seats (can be avoided if really lazy but I'd take them out for ease of access

5) Unclip and remove the kick plates

6) Unclip (gently or may break) and remove the part of the centre dash that houses the ash tray and cigarette lighter. There will be 2 lights that are attached to lighter surround and the ash tray. They need to be turned and then they come out.

7) Cut off the rubber hose that surrounds the positive and negative wires.

8) Leave about 1.5 inches from the light and cut both wires from the light

9) Remove insulation from the wires bother light wires and control unit wires

10) Splice wires from light and the control unit together making sure to keep the + with + and - with -.

11) Test the system by using the remote control from the lights and when everything works properly, using the crimp sleeves secure the wires together. Crimp nice and hard. Make sure that the connection is nice and tight by LIGHTLY pulling on wires making sure then don't slide out and then you can wrap them in electrical tape if desired. My crimp sleeves came in plastic cover so I didn't need to.

12) To get the strips under the car drag the LED strip wires under the carpet, under the kick plate and under the side skirt. Some wiring will show between the kick plate and the skirt no matter what so don't worry about it. If its not really loose it will not be a problem.

13) Remove the side skirts. For that unscrew all the screws under the car and the screws that hold the skirt to the car in the front and rear wheel arch. For that the wheel needs to be turned to free as much space as possible for the driver.

14) Attach the LED strips to the skirts via whatever method you chosen according to space constraints.

15) Connect the LED strips wires to the control box wires

16) Re-attach the skirts back to the car while making sure most of the excess loose wiring is under the seat under carpet.

17) Make sure that the BLACK wire from the control box is sticking out a little from under the centre console as that's the antenna for the remote :)

18) Fit the parts back together and enjoy :)

Got any question PM me :)

I work at jaycar so i put these on my car for a laugh :) Dirt cheap for what they are. One warning though, if you squeeze the strips to tight then the contacts inside break and you lose LEDs

Thanks MrSPL :) Legend for the photos :) I'll take pics of what the installation looks like in terms of connections of wires to the car electricals.

There are 3 LED colours. Red, green and blue. The control box allows for the LEDs to flash, change colours, mix colours and use one colour at a time.
