Hi guys,
Just wondering what you guys use when you have duel fuel around town? Seems that LPG uses more than Petrol around town, but dpes the cost offset still make it cheaper?

I use petrol around town and LPG on the open road. I don't know why, it's just what I do haha.

I use LPG unless I run out. Then E10 till I get to a servo

If u do all the research u need 1.25 to 1.35 times more litres of LPG than petrol (depending on the propane/butane ratio - which is not regulated in Australia but usually referred to as "energy density"). So if u take the mid road - which seems to work for the mix I get in Sydney) and say 1.3, then Petrol equiv of current 64c for LPG is 83c - still well well less than ULP at about 1.30 to 1.40!

All that said I still feel there is is a heavier than 1.3 penalty for LPG in stop start Syd driving maybe 1.4, but no real numbers to prove it!

In normal use I don't notice any performance difference, but having got my OBDII scanner up and running recently I wil generate some LPG vs ULP charts in next few weeks and post them on site

BTW I use E10 cos a tank last 6 - 12 months (mine starts and warms on petrol) and a little ethanol is good for dealing with any water condensation etc in the tank as it makes the water miscible with the petrol and gets rid of it. In prior non LPG cars I used to always add a litre of metho to the tank a couple of times a year to do the same.

Should this be in the LPG forum?

I run on LPG around town because it's cheaper than petrol even allowing for the increase in fuel consumption. I haven't noticed any drop in performance.

I am a tight ass and rarely use petrol - I run LPG all the time. Recently, I noted that the car was running a bit rough, so I decided to use up the petrol from the tank. It was probably about 2 years old and I reckoned that it was about time that it was used. I did about 600 km on petrol and almost emptied the tank. I then put about 2 litres of Metholated Spirits into the tank to mop up any water (condensation etc). I used that lot up as well and then switched back to gas. Coincidence? The car runs really well now. On a 850 km trip, my wife got 10L/100 km on gas, so I am stoked. It had been using 12 L/100 km before this.

Regarding the economics, the carf has done 225 000 km, most of it on gas. Theoretically, I could park it on the side of the road and walk away and it would not owe me any money. The savings on fuel costs have been greater than what the car is worth these days.
