I'm looking at replacing the head unit in my TF series Magna with another unit, specifically the Pioneer DEH-1350MPG. I previously attempted to fit a Pioneer DEH-1950 in the KF Verada with little success, mostly due to the plastic bezel that surrounds the stereo face, as seen here:

When the stereo has that black plastic surround fitted, it doesn't clear the opening in the Magna's fascia. With that plastic surround removed, there's a considerable gap between the stereo and the fascia that allows you to see into the dashboard cavity. In short, it looks awful.

Has anyone else come across this, and if so, what did you do to resolve it?

I've heard of some instances where someone's just filled the gap with another material, but i'd ideally like to do it right. I'm thinking it's possible to mount the head unit forward or back slightly, allowing the plastic surround to clear the fascia, but I haven't looked into it yet.

Yeah pretty common problem. Either have to not use the surround, trim the magna facia, fill it with something else or have it sitting more forward

Yep, me too.
Originally I had my headunit in the top half and slightly forward, but the pop out 7" screen completely obscured the Fan & AC controls.
It annoyed me at that height, but It looked OK.

Then I moved it to the lower slot and trimmed the headunit's plastic facia panel until it would fit flush. It doesn't attach perfectly to the head unit and if I give it a big nudge, it can pop off.
But now it looks better being more flush mount and I can see half of my Fan & AC controls with the screen open! Only I can't get my sunglasses out of the top DIN pocket :(

That's what I did. Drilled new holes into the mount. I just guesstimated lol Worked a treat though! (http://s220.photobucket.com/albums/dd31/89djm/?action=view&current=P1010644.jpg)

I'm thinking that drilling the plate may be the solution, trimming the bezel is an option but last time I tried it didn't work out as well as i'd hoped. I'll have to take a look and see whether to mount it slightly forward or slightly back, either works (done this to a Second Gen before without the need for drilling) it's just the resulting look that differs.

I had the issue with the trim ring and seeing that i like to do things right, i pulled the whole unit out (head unit and the metal brackets) and then drilled 4 new holes a few mm forward from the old ones. Once screwed in i test fitted it and the new holes allowed the head unit to protrude out further so the trim piece can clip on.
