I have recently developed a creaking noise from what I can work out is the front left. This noise only happens when braking to a stop and when going over speed humps. This has all started when we have had cold weather. I had the bushes to the sway bar replaced about 30000km ago, otherwise it is still the original suspension.
Is this a sign that the strut is going ging gone? Or could it be something else like a engine mount? (I have had the rear and right hand side ones replaced).
Anyone got suggestions on what to look for?
Thanks,
(it's a 2005 AWD VRX)
My method to track down suspension creaks/groans is to systematically spray bushes with WD40 or similar. Start with the sway bar and then try another. The noise should go away (temporarily) once you find it. WD40 cannot harm bushes.
Check the strut-top bearing plates and the CV boots/joints. Could be countless other faults, but they're 2 of the more common causes for the noise.

This is a good idea.. Sway bar bushes are a common one. I have to get under the Pajero as it has developed the same in the last few days and its in relation to the car moving up and down in the front end.

Sounds like dry ball joints to me. Try to dribble/squirt some oil past the ball joint rubber boot with a syringe - 1 ml will do - and if this stops the noise you know the grease in them has dried out and you need to regrease the ball joints or replace them.

Could be the break pads?
