So took the car (TL) for a service a few weeks ago, then started noticing a petrol/oil smell and tada oil leak, the oil was just a bit over half, not great for < 2weeks. They replaced the oil filter again just incase it was faulty but said the gasket in the magnas are prone to leaks and almost all of them do.

Firstly was he refering to the rocker cover? And have you guys had oil leak problems in this area with your car? Can this area be replaced/sealed and what cost?

Thanks in advanced,

Yeah the rocker covers are common to weap more than leak. Over time they may weap enough to drip some oil but it is never at a rapid rate.

Easily fixed mate. New rocker cover gaskets to be put on. Any good mechanic should be able to do this easily.

The mechanic may have split some oil while filling. Any spill while filling goes into the exhaust and smells for a while. My TL has done 145k and I have just had to replace the rocker cover gaskets, but they were not leaking enough to drip - just enough to make things look dirty under the car.

Yeah this was its 130-5k service so may need changing soon anyway. Oil was definately dripping onto the exhust manifold (causing it to burn off and smoke), i have driven the car a few times since taking it back to the "mechanic" and it seems that a change in oil filter has stopped it from dripping so fingers crossed it stays that way!

Guess that leads me onto asking if anyone has recommendations for mitsu mechanics in Brisbane area?

Thanks for your help guys really appreciate the response.
