Hi guys im new to magnas and i just brought my first one and on the first 15-30 seconds starting the car when cold it does idle. It spluters a bit when reving to. But after the 15-30 seconds it runs fine might but sometimes is a bit shakey. But once warm idles and drives perfect without a flaw. I read that it could be a EGR valve or O2 sensor. Anyone know what could be the problem? Thanks

Which model of Magna have you got, and what sort of mileage is on it?

I'd start by cleaning the throttle body and idle speed control motor. If you are mechanically minded it will only cost a can of carby clean. Just thinking about this - the EGR valve if fault would dirty the throttle body. My TL 2003 model is starting to do it too. But it is not bad enough for the wife to complain yet. My has only done it on cold mornings and as you say it only does it for 10 - 15 secs. My car also smells a little fuel out the exhaust of a morning too.

My car smells like petrol during the process to. Im quite mechanically minded but never worked on this car before. Looks alot more complicated then the commodores. The throttle body was cleaned last year but ill try it tomorrow :) Thanks for you help. Also how do you reset the ecu?

Also how do you reset the ecu?

If you unbolt the negative terminal from the battery, and leave it off for about 10 mins, that should clear the ECU's memory. The o2 sensor should have been replaced already, given that the car has 230k on it, but if it's the original, it's a good bet that it's responsible for some of your issues.

I Reset the ECU and cleaned the Idle speed motor and made it idle better but still hasent fixing it. It appears that it has stock leads as there mitsubishi ones and look a tad worn. Any other things to try? Could it be the EGR valve? if so is it the gold thing at the top of the intake manifold?

Because the ECU has been reseted, the ECU is still "learning" how to drive the car that's why is reving wierd somethime the engine "die". The ECU in Magnas is a SLOW learner.
My recomandation will be to drive the car like that for a while (my be a month) and if is still doing the same, than i will be start to be worried
Someone correct me if i'm wrong!

Cheers,
Seby
