Hey guys
Just bought a 2007 380 SX Series II with 119k on the clock 2 weeks ago (Ex Fleet car been driven quite a bit). Came across these forums while I was looking into these cars before I bought it, its been really helpful so far.. spent countless hours reading up on here haha
One of the first things I noticed when the dealer started it up was that there was a pretty loud ticking noise from under the bonnet. They told me that it was normal and just injector noise.. Question is, how loud should the injector noise be? Should i notice it pretty loudly when driving? I might be a bit of a hypercondriac after reading posts about people having problems with some valve.. emissions something or rather valve lol
And another question.. Fuel usage. First tank I put in it was just regular Shell unleaded and I got about 360 kms from 54 litres. Just seemed a bit crappy. That was 200 kms of short distance driving and about 160 kms of highway/country driving. Just filled my 2nd tank with VPower so maybe it won't be so dodgy this time?
I'm a bit of a noob with cars. Its pretty much my first car lol
Cheers!

Hey mate welcome to the club!
The ticking is probably the emissions canister on the firewall not injectors, nothing to much to worry about. If you have warranty you might be able to get it swapped out.
360km to a tank is pretty crap, I get that with the supercharger. Maybe dirty MAF sensor or buggered O2 sensors. Blocked air cleaner maybe ..... or lead foot lol

I was surprised at improvement in enginge reponsivness drivability when I cleaned my MAF sesnor at 55 0000K
See http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84724

Welcome to the club mate! Chuck up some pics of your beast.
I find fuel economy is completely dependent on how it is driven. I've been sane lately and am averaging 10.9. I used to average 13+

Can I ask what you paid for it?
I just bought myself a 2007 SX Series II with 93,000 on the clock for $12,000. I probably could have got it lower, cause the owner accepted the 1st offer.

Apparently so! How do you drive matey? If your driving around the city your gonna see higher consumption thats just a fact. I see some P plates on that bonnet though, so that might explain the high consumption ;)
I got off my p's mid last week and my economy dropped half a litre per 100?? explain that lol :P

Well that would explain it! I have been using D a lot more now than I used to. powerflows? Twin system? Im jealous!

Nah man single one :/ twin tips count for 2? :p
D is good i guess but cant seem to get that deep burble I do in 5th when in tiptronic, maybe I'm deaf lol
Ontopic.. You're first mod should def be the galant intake, noticed a big diff when I changed mine.

When your in tippy mode say in 4th and you slow right down does it stay in 4th or drop a gear or two?
I've never been game to try it out.

never been game ?? why not....and generally it doesn't drop down a gear until you stop and then it automatically drops into first.
Using tippy is good to overcome that shocking "slip straight into 2nd gear " action on a relative light throttle.....most annoying thing about the box,and economy 10ks wtf mine is about 14.5,and my wife drives it 99% of the time

I've noticed if you slow right down the gearbox does go back to third then straight to 1st when you stop. Just watch the lights on the dash next to the gear number (probably not a good idea if there is a car in front of you) lol
I generally put it in 2nd to take off from lights then put it back over to D

yep, if you're in tippy mode but don't touch the gear lever, the box will automatically drop back down the gears if you slow down enough (but it will let the revs get pretty low before it changes down) and like mikey's, mine will stay in 3rd as you come to a complete stop, always skipping 2nd.
I've never been game to try the opposite - see if the box will automatically change up a gear in tippy mode to protect itself/the engine if you're bouncing off the rev limiter - i know some autos will do this in tiptronic mode...

It doesn't change up automatically

Yeah It most certainly doesn't change up. As I have found out a few times forgetting its in tip mode lol

Yep I did it today in the city. I put it in tippy to get past some idiot playing silly buggers on the freeway & forgot. First set of lights in the city I looked like an idiot as the car was revving like shit across the intersection lol

Thanks for all the responses, its good to see its a pretty active forum.
The car is still under warranty till Feb or another 10,000kms, so hopefully i can get any warranty issues sorted before then. I dont think I drive hard but then again its pretty easy to in this car without realising.. Im going to give the MAF sensor cleaning a shot on the weekend so hopefully that makes some improvement.
Answers to other peoples questions: She is dark grey/storm, I paid $11,900 drive away with 12 months reg and Id post a pic but a bird shat on my bonnet this arvo so it wont do it justice lol

Had my '08 VRX now for a month or two and lowest avg fuel economy was 8.6L/100km on a trip to phillip island on regular ULP. Normal avg at the moment is high 14's but im really only driving to and from work which is like 15mins away. and cos i dont drive it a lot i tend to give it a bit to enjoy it. When trying to save fuel tho i find driving it in tippy mode and short shifting really helps, except when you forget you are in tippy mode at the lights and hit 5000 RPM before shifting into 2nd hahaha whoops!
welcome to the club Josh! and I also recommend the galant intake mod, cheap and easy to do. I am complete amateur and managed to do it!

Mmm not as bad in D thinking you're in tippy shift the lever up and revving it in neutral

What a coincidence, mine's Storm as well. Nice with the 12 months. I only got 4 months.

Yeah I had a good read about doing that somewhere on here. Anyone know who I can order the part through + the box that fits it? Can you get it through Mitsubishi spare parts? I'm not really keen on cutting into the existing one. Also will doing this mod affect the warranty?
Cheers

Ripped from an old post
The torx 5 point allen key(MAF sensor) I got from England via ebay (http://stores.ebay.com.au/Nadia-Autoparts ) for approx. $7 posted. I got a can of CRC MAF cleaner from supercheap for $25. http://www.crcind.com.au/catalogue.n...r?openDocument
The KR air filter I ordered from the states, also via ebay, cost about $71 delivered. (http://stores.ebay.com.au/Autocom-Performance-Parts )
The box and snorkel came from RC Hill Mitsubishi, http://www.rchillmitsu.com
The part numbers if needed are:
Air intake "snorkel" component: MN156778
Front half of air filter box: MN180008

+1 to this. Embarrassing when you have a car load of holden loving mates.
Also Josh you shouldn't have any concerns with warranty at all. Mines got holes all over the joint and I haven't had a problem.
Intake/muffler (full exhaust would be good too) and she will be the ants pants!

Hey just an update on the car..
Took it into heilderberg Mitsubishi to get the ticking noise looked at and a few other things. Went pretty well (I hope), they came back to me and told me it was the EGR and that they had ordered one from SA so hopefully I'll get it fixed next week. Is EGR another name for the valve that some of you guys found was the cause of your ticking?
Oh and I noticed little chunks of foam under the drivers side seat, got them to look at it and they said they have ordered something and are replacing it. Whether they are just reupholstering the seat with new foam or replacing the whole thing I have yet to find out. I'm pretty happy with the outcome though and it's all under warranty which is another thing to smile at :)
And lastly I put the 90mm intake and k&n filter in about a week ago and loving it :p

Your not wrong about the city. Spent the weekend running around the gold coast...averaged 13.7 lol. Exhaust wise its completely dependent on what you want from it...if your just after a bit more noise a good straight through muffler would be more than sufficient....from there you could step up to a bigger diameter catback exhaust, hi flow cats etc etc. Depends on how much money you want to spend aka how much money your significant other thinks is reasonable lol
