Is it possible to get rid of the abs on a tj series 2? I hate it, and my car does not stop, at least in comparison to my old TF

Have you thought there might be another problem if it has trouble stopping??

What is there to hate..best thing ever if you know how to drive and brake properly.........you must be mega slamming on the brakes for the abs to be activating...and if you think your car isnt stopping, its NOT the abs that's not stopping you,get the rest of the system checked out

.and pull the fuse out.........good grief

Why would you want to remove it? Theoretically the ABS shouldn't make a difference. The optimal braking point, as I'm sure you'd know, is just before the brakes lock up... and if your brakes aren't locking up, ABS isn't engaging.

Dont TF's also have ABS? (Mine does!)
Or was it just an option?

Get better brakes.

I just bought the thing and haven't had time to replace any of the pads or rotors yet, not that I think the rotors need doing, but the ABS seems to make it lock up in bumpy sections of road, just glides and won't turn because the brakes are locked, I've often been told that this is the case with ABS. I can tell you my TF didn't have ABS, and it stopped extremely well, never once locked up and I had some extreme moments, starting to wonder why I changed it over now (sob)

Is there dirt between the teeth of your ABS sensor ring? Google image search it if you don't know what they look like, get a mirror and a torch and have a look under your car behind the wheels and see if theres chunks of dried mud or something caught in the teeth.

but the ABS seems to make it lock up in bumpy sections of road, ANTI-LOCK -BRAKE SYSTEM-designed NOT lock up your brakes

just glides and won't turn because the brakes are locked,..................see above............maybe it wont turn because you are obliviously driving too damm fast and are actually understeering

I've often been told that this is the case with ABS....Told what ,that ABS locks your brakes ...yeah ,sure ,and then locks and unlocks them again faster than you can blink

I can tell you my TF didn't have ABS, and it stopped extremely well, never once locked up and I had some extreme moments, starting to wonder why I changed it over now (sob)

so you are upset because you have upgraded to far safer car and think that the abs is the problem....

Seriously ,all the system you describe are of a non abs system, you actually sure it has ABS

Also, is there a brake centre or service centre that does free or cheap safety inspections? They might be able to have a look over the whole system. What condition are the rotors/pads in and what brand?

ABS systems are a little more complicated as in they use sensors and rotor teeth to tell an ECU which wheel is locking up. If anything goes wrong , generally the ABS warning light will show up.

dont stuff with brakes mate , get them serviced properly before you suspect them of being faulty.

Sorry, car was a complete lemon, realised as soon as i started changing things and repllacing fluids etc, it's history now, moved on

Brilliant fault finding technique there . . . . . .
Disabling ABS will simply add another problem on top of problems you have now!

ABS is meant to give you maximum retardation while still retaining steering control. If the wheels lock up now, the ABS isn't working. Why disable a non-working system?

I would:
Check that you actually have ABS.
Change and bleed brake fluid.
Change pads if they are worn, new thickness is 9 mm, minimum is 2 mm.
Check condition of rotors, skim or replace if scored deeply.
Replace any bald tyres, inflate to factory pressure.

Test drive car - bed in brakes, if they still lock up check the ABS sensors on the 4 wheels. If you can't find them, then you have no ABS. lol

Just read this, wasted my breath it seems. lol Max should read more carefully, and check post dates! lol
Car a lemon, or the person working on it had NFI? mmmmmm?
