View Full Version : Another Dash removal question

OK, I did the search thing and got over 200 pages of anything but what I really wanted.
I did find after wading there for an hour that Mal did do a DIY on dash removal that seems to have vanished :(
In short, I can remove the instruments, the centre console and the heater controls and all the associated fascia without too much drama.
Now I need to get to the heater core and replace the seals and the outlet pipes on my TE sedan project car. As I understand this, I need to remove the actual dash pad itself and this is where I go where no "ME" :eek2: has gone before!
What should I be aware of, such as the side air vents, hidden bolts, steering wheel removal and any other tricks that may help. I have had experience in crash repair workshops and I have three days and most of the right sort of tools for the job in hand, so information and diagrams or images would be a big help.
Cheers, Jeff

The download manual is your best friend here mate :) Otherwise you know where to find me!
I just undid everything I could see, and the last 2 bolts were at a funny angle and hidden under the 2 round dash covers.

Just got a head start today Friday. Started at 12;00 and had the dash pad out at 1;20. Was easier than I thought, these cars are great ;) now to get the heater core, just watch me come undone somewhere for being so smart. Still waiting for the parts to turn up.

OK, got my parts and now the first hiccup. Do I have to dump the A/C gas and remove the A/C unit to get the heater core out or is there a way around this? This I see as my last obstacle now, I can see the pipes I need to replace, victory is so close, yet so far! I think I shall wait for some of that good advice that flows from within.

Just did a climate control conv. last week and i replace the heater core! The dash himself is holdet by 5 screws (and 2 nuts on the top where the dash speakers are)
Than just pull the dash out! MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE ALL THE PLUGS! And you have to remove one off the front seats and aslo the gear shifter.
You don't have to worry about the sides vents cos they are in the same line with the centre ones (you will see when you gonna take the dash out)
EDIT: YOU DON"T HAVE TO TOUCH YOUR AIRCON, REMOVE GAS, ETC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My broken heater (replaced with a new one)

Sseby34, thanks heaps for that info and the pics with the descriptions of where the nuts and bolt are. Had it done in half an hour.
Then I decided to redo all the vent foam seals right throughout the system, then wash out the vent system completely as much as was possible. Tidy up all the wiring, secure any loose bits, added the heater ducts for the rear passenger floor venting and then got mega creative and had a go at putting kevlar trim on the Air vents. Not too sure on it at the moment, I really wanted the black kevlar, but I got silver so I am out to lunch on it at the moment.
Anyhow, thanks once more for your pics and info,
Cheers, Jeff

I am needing many of my dash lights replaced, wanting them to be replaced with LEDs......... I have a strange feeling it's not going to be easy after looking at this project.

All Lights are in center console console, is no point in the world to remove the dash!
BTW What year is your car?

2001 Magna Solara. The lights on the D, some on the CD buttons and some on the Aircon buttons are out. I thought I would need to remove the dash to change the D light, I also want to change the ones for the rev and speed as the originals are a dim yellowy colour.
Cheers
Sseby34 you are a lifesaver mate!! Many thanks!!
