Hi

I looked at the Parker lights on my car and its a Wedge Tail 12V 3W.

Would this LED suit ok?

Thanks

any T10 LED would be ok. i find "spread" or "inverted" ones look better because they are not as directional allowing the headlight to be illuminated better.

I assume this would look like that particular LED you linked,

whereas these ones are a "spread" design

lol no. .

I was trying to reply to this today but got distracted by customers. I work at jaycar by the way lol I was going to recommend that one if you can afford it and it has 15 LEDs on it not comes in packs of 15!

Or you could get a similar pair off ebay for about $2.50 shipped. Just search "T10 LED", order by price, include international, and around the $2+ mark you'll start to see some suitable ones.

Parkers need light emiting in all directions; the "inverted cone" lenses are OK but will be lower power, either go for multiple SMDs, preferably facing in muliple directions, or single high-output (eg. 1W+) LEDs. SMD and 1W+ will give a much wider viewing angle than standard LEDs.
And make sure you can actually fit them through the holes; if the "light" assembly is about the same size as the base, should be fine, just lookout for the ones that stick out further.

Or just throw in a couple of Cree XM-L's or something

I just got some cheap ones from jaycar they are $1.95 each and work fine.

Thanks everyone, been most helpful :)

Will look into them, not sure if $25 a bulb is worth it for my car, hoping to go on a Wollongong or Sydney cruise! Want to show you my car and see if anyone has any tips of fixing some bits of the car so it can catch up with the cars you guys have.

on the jaycar website it says "15 x White T10 Wedge Replacement Globe 12V" so my bad, i read it as 15X T10

I used the same ones you linked in my TS magna, they came up nicely, if a bit directional, it got better after I sanded the nubs down.

I did the same thing to use these in my instrument cluster and it looks really nice.

Can you please upload a photo? I was thinking if the White (slightly blue) would look nice in the dash or if I had to go blue or orange. I am needing to replace the dash ones, did you do it yourself?

Thanks for you help :)

I am having difficulties removing the front parkers on my 2001 Solara Magna. I have tried pull and also twisting, it seems still really tight and I don't want to force it and break it. Any ideas? Thanks

Sorry I missed where you asked for pictures, these are the pictures I took a while ago with my phone, it doesn't work very well in low light, I would take out my good camera out and do it now but my car is currently indisposed... at the mechanics... after a sudden and rapid loss of coolant...

These are from a pretty bad camera, I assure you it is actually a nice white colour. All these used the filed down T10s from Jaycar, I did it myself and in the 2nd gen it was pretty easy, amazingly the dimmer dial still worked perfectly.

There was originally a slight problem caused by not having the lights shining back on the dials
http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/3081/image273d.jpg

I fixed it here, the original T5 white leds from Jaycar had a bright white circle of light in 2 spots. I dipped the very tip of each bulb in black paint, leaving nice diffuse light.

Here is a comparison of the parker bulbs, I don't know how it is in 3rd gens but on my 2nd gen, as far as I recall, the bulbs just popped out and pushed in, I know it was simple.

Wow, awesome difference just in a parker light. Thanks for that, was really looking forward to seeing the difference. I was lead to assume the 3rd gen uses T10for the dash lights?

Is that just a super white parker or a white with a blueish colour?

Thanks thanks

From what I've read previously, they use T10, but I believe I also read that you have to be careful with the "length" of the light, in that it's a pretty short space between the holder and the faceplate. Shouldn't have issues with the flat-faced SMD ones on ebay etc. On a side note, I've also read that the TL/TW has LEDs already? Not that that's applicable...

Generally speaking, you'll find most "white" LEDs to be on the blueish side, especially when compared to standard incandescents. But more and more are becoming available in a variety of flavours, eg. warm white, neutral white, cool white.

Yeah I am finding many white ones, the ones I got from Jaycar are a nice blue but not in the format (SMD and 360 degrees) that I am after.

One of my parkers is dead in my car...would i use the same bulb for a TL?

My parkers are 10 years old lol, but a yucky yellow. Still testing if a blueish white or a HID pure white will look better as the actual headlights are also yellowy.

From the looks of it, TL/TW is also T10 parkers. Usual bitch to replace though, as it's in the primary light, so need to go through the wheel well etc...

Anyone know if this is bright?

They always say bright on ebay...

Just looking at using it as number plate lights. Bulb design so more light spread similar to bulb? not as good as 360 smd right?"

Thanks

I don't think that's what you are looking for, Jaycar sells ones like those as well, they produce a really direct beam, less spread than the ones in the original post.
Have a look at the light spread in that picture, if you put those in your number plate lights it will only light up two of the numbers directly below them.

I tried those type of bulbs in my number plate lights on my TS and that was the result. I tried filing down the tip but it didn't have much of an improvement.

These could possibly be more what you are after, but I haven't tried them myself... I did try using a drill on the normal bulb shaped ones to emulate it but it didn't get a good result

OP, do yourself a favour and do not buy very cheap parker LED's.

I tried a few from ebay and they started flickering.

I have since bought the ones below

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/t10-1w-20-30-lumen-5-x-5050-smd-led-car-blue-light-bulbs-12v-pair-58297

and to date (4 weeks) have not had a single issue.

The spread is good, no flickering and less chance of it falling into the headlight. They are also quite bright, so much so that the blue shines through even with my headlights (Philips crystal vision) are on. You can choose to go for the white LED's in the same if you so wish.

See my thread below for the issues I had

Thanks for all the advice guys, yeah I had a LED begin to flicker for 10 minues before dying (from Jaycar) so that was why I thought the ones from Jaycar are the same as ebay.

I have seen Aeropro ones in Super Cheap but at $15 odd dollars each, I am not sure if they are worth it.

I like the warm white? (slightly blue) as it gives the lights a bit of colour, currently using banana yellow headlights so bright white LED might not be as nice

I am in NSW too, I thought the blue would attract the wrong kind of attention and a fine?

Thanks

So far it hasn’t. For peace of mind, go for the white in the same.

I found the Parkers bulb but I can't reach it because I can't take the headlight out, how do I uncouple the plug to the bulb? I have tried to yank it out but the bulb kind of gets yanked as well. Any photos, details or video would be so highly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

I am in NSW too, I thought the blue would attract the wrong kind of attention and a fine?Quite definitely. Blue lighting anywhere on a vehicle is illegal in all of Australia; it is restricted to emergency vehicles only! If they were to really get narky, you could possibly even be done for impersonating a police officer!

White is fine, a blueish white is fine, but quite definitely NOT blue. Or for that matter, red, green, or any of those non-white (or possibly yellow/orange) colours. Red is only allowed on the rear of a vehicle; if you were parked at the side of a road with just your parkers on (say in a dark area), an oncoming driver could get confused by your red parkers, think they're seeing your rear, think the road deviates to the right, etc...

It's hard to find those blueish white LEDs, especially super bright ones.
But you make good points about the safety of using coloured LEDS. Tahnks

I was on the road the other day and had a porshe (or something?) sitting up my arse tailgating me, he had green-yellow headlights.
(and he didn't like it when I slammed my brakes on)

I have a question, the LED parkers (Plastic not Glass base) is inside the headlight cabin with the Halogen bulb, won't the LED get too hot and melt? I've seen people using Parkers inside the headlights before (blue one in a Yaris, which shares the same cabin) Has anyone had a bad experience? LEDs are cheap to replace, last thing I want is melted plastic on headlight reflectors and looking at big repair costs.

Thanks!
