View Full Version : Handsfree/bluetooth car kits + GPS
I'm waiting on a loan to be approved and looking at a 380 of some sort. It'll become my personal/work car. I do approx 30% of my milage for work, which I can write off on tax.
The few things I'm wanting to know are, is there any sort of connectivity for iPhone/Android phones in the car? I've also seen a few with GPS in the dash, but thinking this may be aftermarket? Is this right?
If there are some with GPS and I can get my hands on one, I'll stick with my iPhone and get a bluetooth kit or something. If there's not, I'll get an Android phone for work for free GPS and handsfree of some sort as well.

The Eclipse AVN6000 head unit with GPS inbuilt was an (expensive) option for all of the 380 models, as was a Parrot Bluetooth kit. :)

I'll stick with my iPhone and get a Bluetooth kit or something. Depending on the model you get,it may already have a Bluetooth kit fitted .

With the 380 you are unfortunately stuck with two choices of head unit.
The stock single din in the lower speck models, which,if that is the car you buy, fine if you want to upgrade the H/U to some thing that has ipod connectivity
Otherwise you get the fully integrated one that comes in the VRX/GT and maybe some other models.
Bottom line ,there is no real easy way to stream your music from your phone into the std set up.
Bluetooth is there ,and as most phones have gps now days, that is taken care of that way.

Not necessarily... You can get two-DIN fascias that will fit a 380 at http://fascias.com.au and I have seen the same one for a Galant on eBay too (not 100% sure if it's an exact fit, but it sure looks like it from the photos) - you shift the aircon controls from the current integrated fascia to the new one and then it slots straight in, leaving you with a double-DIN opening.

I'm not worried about iPod connectivity, I use my iPhone as a phone. The stereo I take care of later, the old man's an Audio Engineer (I hope he doesn't shatter my windows).
I'm really only wanting to know if/what type of connectivity there is to connect an iPhone or Android Phone for handsfree use on the phone while driving.
I'm test driving a VRX on Thursday, and a DB SX series 2 on Saturday morning.

Some 380 versions have bluetooth as standard equip
The issue is problems with iPhone volume control - generally vol is controlled by the phone, but not for some newer phones, incl iPhone in some cases
A patch cable is needed (Mitsu part MR936542) which allows control via radio. About $60 and 5 mins to install
