Hello, my verada has a problem with the window washer. Whenever i activate it,no water comes out and i can hear the motor under the bottle whining. The hoses connecting the washer nozzle to the pump stays limp and empty even while the motor is whining away.

How do i fix this?? I also apologize if my question seems very vague as i am not sure what the nozzle/pump thing is called. Thank you

Have you traced all the tubing from the washer motor to the nozzles? Checking if any have popped off?
The pump motor itself may have seperated from the pump itself due to age. Check the nozzle holes where the water exits and see if anything blocking it?
Check to make sure the motor is fully home on the washer bottle and there is water in the bottle. May sound stupid, but its something alot of people fail to check.

hiya, i removed the bottle to check and clean it and realised that the whole lower bottle was green with algae and was totally clogged up. All is well after a rinse.

How can i prevent and remove algae from the the window washer bottle??

This is a problem I had on my old Commodore - I tried 2 methods - first was to add a teaspoon of bleach to the bottle....this killed whatever algae spores were present and this worked well. Then after about a year, one of my sons said he know how to make sure the algae never came back - simply paint the bottle so that light cannot penetrate...which he did for me. Problem never came back.
If I were to do it again, I'd just add the bleach....cannot see it doing any harm to the paint as it is very diluted.

put a small amount of dishwashing liquid in there. Stops algi and helps to clean the window

LOL.... painting the bottle sounds like a good idea to reduce algae growth. I think i shall go procur some washer fluid and put it in the tank :D

Be extra careful when handling the bottle - the plastic goes very brittle....I knocked mine and punched a hole in it and had to Sikaflex it.

Eh??? iIs very brittle?? I dropped it at chest height while i was washing it and it was fine. Why does it get very brittle? Is there some sunlight hitting the bottle??

Probably from age and heat in the engine bay.

Mine was 6 years old when it got damaged - the area was topside nearest the headlight and the plastic was brittle just like an eggshell and very thin. Car is always in the hot Queensland sun, colour is flame red so it was probably always hot except in winters like this! Many other makes have this problem and I think what grelise says is probably correct.

These bottles do go brittle with age and heat. I had to change the one in my KS. Algae and gel like substance is common occurrance. Just flush it once in a while. Also, as for painting it to keep the light out, who drives with their bonnet up? It is mainly the heat and moisture that is causing the growth of algae. Algae only require little indirect light to grow. Just pour some window washing liquid in the bottle everytime you top the bottle up.
