Sell your TE and buy a Galant or Legnum VR4.
Not bad advice in only 10 words

What about insurance? What about the road laws surrounding forced induction for P platers? What about upgrading the rest of the car to handle it?
..GONE..

If you want a list.. start with the basics like getting your car safe first off (eg. Brakes, Suspension etc)
Once you've done all you need there, you'll be 25 and you'll be ready to head down the FI path..
Till then..

Fitting a Turbo in any car can be done if you have the $$
YOu have stated 2 reasons so far as to why you are not able to do this
1/ You are on your P Plates and simply do not have the experience to drive a powerful car
2/ If you can not afford to buy a car already equipped with a Turbo, you can not afford to do this to your Magna either
To do this you do not just bolt on some fleabay kit, hit the key and woosh away into the sunset. YOu have so many other factors such as fuel and ignition mapping, allowing for the boost (as the Magna ECU will not), engine you need to allow at least 5k for a proper build to take the boost, driveline and brakes need all to be upgraded with atlest LSD and decent brakes there is another $4k before you have even looked at wheels and tyres.
It is my understanding that P platers can not drive turbo petrol powered cars and for bloody good reason too. I suggest you spend your time on P plates to learn how to drive properly and responsibily, do some courses etc and while at it save up for either a proper build of your car or another car.
I understand you are in SA and have been driving for 2 years already but IMO you need at least 5 years under your belt before you can safely drive a powerful car, and even then this is only just for some out there.
On a last note, be prepared for breakages, some can not avoid breaking LSD's and brand new clutches without a Turbo, pump that boost through this bad boy and you will no doubt have issues now and again, although no doubt will be having fun doing this (in controlled events of course)

Nice turbo kits there! If you really want one, buy it by all means, but put it in the boot and don't install it - your car will live longer and be more reliable without it. I definitely do not believe the claim that 8 psi is ok for a standard motor, even if you could get those bits to fit, the engine is not going to last long.
When I was on my "P"s, my first car had 30Kw at the rear wheels, and I still didn't manage to stay out of trouble. And you want a turbo Magna? lol
Maybe later, in say 10 years time, when you have the cash and a - much - newer car to start with, this would be a good project to undertake.

If you gained your P's after September 4th last year, you can't drive ANYTHING TURBO, V8 or so many Kw(can remember the number, I was originally going to buy a Stagea but the law came in, then they changed it to people gaining L's P's at that date, then it was to late cause I bought my TH wagon then found out 2 days later that I could've bought one, you cant drive anything high powered on the road at any forgiven time until your over 25 and had no demerits lost in that time, if you lost demerits you most hold a full license for 5 yearsThat's the new law on P's
I gained my P's feburary last year so I am able to drive what ever, I'm 18 also
As for turboing, as everyone says, $$$$$$, look in members ride threads with people that have supercharged or turbo'd, I'm sure there will be heaps of info there for you to have an idea how long it takes, I believe EGO has been going 5 years with his turbo convertion? And still has problems with burning the firewall? (people can add the this if I'm right or wrong)
If you want power, would just be worth it to get a turbo'd car or drop a 380 motor in, 3.8L instead or your 3.0/3.5?

He has a 3L auto mate.
With that Ebay turbo kit (running 4psi so it doesn't send a blade into the engine with the $20 turbo), it would still end up putting out less power than a standard Ralliart.

OMG i just looked at the links posted on fleabay. I would not install either of them in my car if you paid me to do it.
Its scary that these "kits" even exist in this capacity. I would not trust any of it except maybe the s/s braided oil return lines.
I have a stock manual TE in my driveway also and its a great car with a simple exhaust upgrade and its just fine as it is.
Unless your looking to hurl yourself down the 1/4 then save your bucks on just keeping the ole girl running nice. More of my $ are spend just maintaining the car than what money spent upgrading her.
Welcome to the forum btw in case no one has said so yet.
Cheers
Buy a Ralliart Magna mate. Best 'P' plater car going around! There are a few around 10K now and even some in the 9K range...

when you a "kit" its all cheap sh#t, unless its a elderbrock kit. I had brought one for an old honda of mine, yes the kit was $7000 but came with everything i needed apart from the motor internals and work. all up cost me close to $20k by the time i finished and had had it road legal.
so save your money man and buy a turbo car later on.

this isn't my first car, first car i had was a volvo lol and then a pulsar now the magna and loving it, just wanted to see other peoples opinions on these kits and if there worth it. looks like its gona be to hard and cost effective. might as well save for a standard turbo car. ill have my full license by November anyway :) have had small experience with turbo cars and thats why im looking to get one. cheers for all the info guys :)

my first car had 100hp and weighted nearly 1600kg and being carbied i was able to take it off the clock as there was no limiter, the speedo went to 200km/h.
My first turbo import was limited to 180km/h so for all the power in the world it wasnt any faster but i could have owned my original car on the new p-plate laws haha
What makes turbo cars so dangerous for inexperienced drivers is there non linear torque progression. on an NA car torque generally climbs statically with rpm, a much linear almost diagonal line where as torque in a turbo car as it transitions into boost climbs almost straight up and then flattens out with rpm once peak boost is acheived. this rpm and the response to the rear wheels changes under a lot of different conditions which is why its not about what you drive its how you drive that keeps you alive when you're inexprienced. I had so many close calls, i dont consider myself to be a good driver (i do now, that ive slowed down and obey the road rules but didnt then) i was just lucky.

^ This. I had an R31 Pintara for my first car and that came from the factory with 78 Kilowatts. It was more than enough power for a P plater. At the end of the day, all a kid needs is some big shiny wheels and a banging sound system for mah tunes.

And all of these low power cars you guys seem to think are great P-Plater cars have horrible safety ratings and would rev their tits off at any speeds above 80km/h, thus ruining fuel economy.
No.

No, they kits aren't worth it at all. They're horrible cheap crap, the turbo will be lucky to last 6 months at 4psi, and because these kits are as universal as possible, things need to be modified anyway.
You CAN turbo a car cheaply, but you need to do a stack of custom work yourself and hunt for good deals on parts.
Honestly, you would be much better off swapping in a 3.5L and manual gearbox. You will end up with more power to the wheels than if you did install the turbo kit, and instead of lasting 5000kms like the turbo kitted engine will, it will last at least 250,000kms.
It would likely end up cheaper, too, and be much more stealth so you don't get too much hassle from police or idiots who see the intercooler and think you have to be running 500whp so they should drag you to prove their V6 commodore is hektik fast bro.
Don't do it mate. You would be wasting your money.

I remember the stick I used to get from the cops being a 24 year old with a stock standard Pulsar Turbo........plus the $1500 a year insurance cost was a kick in the butt.

..........but you have to buy your $1200.00 box and the bits and pieces first ,and then pay your $1000.00 to get it fitted.....$22-2300.00 is what Adelaide wreckers want to supply and fit a manual box in a Magna.
