HI all, I have just got hold of a one owner TM Elite ( 147 k's). The car is in great condition. Other than the following. Cold starts - does not seem to Idle or the choke is not working initially. After a few goes it settles and the choke seems to activate ? Any Ideas

Also iam not sure if this is an actual problem - It does seem to have a slight mustly smell. The carpets seem to be dry and i can identify any water getting into the cabin.... As i said not sure about this one. did not have the smell when i got it but a week later i can definatly smell something.

Anyway the car is a ripper!

cheers everyone

ill second the welcome and the fact that they are great cars. i love mine!
as to the smell as doug said it may be a leaking heater core but also could be simply a musty A/C coil. try running the air con for half an hour or so and that should make enough condensate on the evaporator coil of the A/C to give it a bit of a wash. mine use to be caked in dust and every time ide start it up it would stink. but after a few runs it smelt less and less.

as to the cold start, take off the air cleaner and have someone crank the engine. have a look down the rear port of the carby and there should be a choke plate that basically fully covers it. if its only slightly closed try pushing it closed and see if that helps. also, when warmed up make sure the choke fully opens after a couple of minutes.
you can also try giving it a few pumps and make sure it spurts fuel down into the carby. if you dont allready give it a few pumps before cranking from cold........all this talk makes me love my efi lol.

hope this helps a little,
regards jay

hi there. I got a recond carb and it runs much better now. MMM the smell, it appears their is a leak from the rear window. I suspect it is a bit of a rust repair job unfortunalty. will get it done before next winter
