View Full Version : Engine Mounts.
Hay all
I replaced all my engine mounts about 30000km ago with mitsubishi ones i found they were best for tacking shock and reducing axle tramp. Ive now have checked and my drivers side main engine mount already has a crack in it. So obviously i need a better setup. Ive heard of people putting 2 solid mounts in and leaving the other rollers stock.? wats peoples opionons.?

My opinion? Stop torturing your car. Or maybe turn yours into solid mounts.

Some people fill the standard mounts with sikaflex or something similar.
How much were the new mounts, and did it make the car smoother?
I changed mounts on a different car of mine which has hydraulic mounts and it became a lot smoother

For a street car I wouldn't recommend replacing any of them with solid mounts, solid mounts have no give whatsoever as they are a sold metal mount. If you really want to replace it with something firmer try polyurethane, I have all four in poly and I like it but most wouldn't because they are a little harsh. Go to the sponsors section and send Megatron a PM he does 3 out of the 4 mounts and you can get the gearbox mount through Repco.

definately upgrade to poly mounts i think you need to start treating your mechanicals with some sympathy

what he said lol.
Get poly mounts they're a much more solid rubber like material. it fills up the entire inside of the mount area you'll feel more of the engines vibrations through your car but will give you a better and longer lasting solution to replacing it with standard mounts if you're gonna keep destroying them lol.

My car is treated fairly well. I have had to replace the drivers side engine mount - it has done 140k. I'm surprised that yours cracked after 30k. Is it a big crack or just starting to crack. Mine was totally cracked to the point I could pull the centre out of it when I removed it. The other mounts all seem fine. I did not notice any difference though. Filling the whole mound with sikaflex sounds like a good idea. I would want to leave it off the car for a few days to dry though.

Na mate its just slightly cracked now. But i know it will only get worse.
Slight warning for poly mounts, expect a rougher idle. However it will improve shift response. I've only done the one, but it made quite a difference.

Do new mounts make a noticeable difference in idle and running? ie, smoothness?

Yes they do if your engine mounts are old or cracked

What is their expected lifespan?
And I assume they are rubber, not hydraulic?

Depends entirely on driving style, as you can see Kurt's lasted 30k, in the hands of a grandpa they would get changed every 20 years lol
And yes, rubber.

The standard replacement mounts are in fact a hydraulic mount, rubber filled with an oil.

Yeah blowing through mitsu mounts is common.
Megatron sells some solid poly mounts, I replaced 3 of mine with them and while the mounts were fantastic, they DO transmit a LOT of noise into the car, and make the whole car much harsher in general.
Would recommend just going mitsus again, a little expensive but nice ride.

How much are the OEM parts?
And do all of them need changing or just front and rear?

I got some from ASP Rubber Industries in Melbourne
Ph 1300 661 171
Price was good - they were in stock.
I think they required an exchange for the RHS mount (supplied with aluminium cast mount).
