how often do this have to get done, how can you tell when it needs to be change:hmm:
If your auto trans fluid is dirty or looks/smells burnt. Timewise, I think about 50,000?

The book says 45000km as I recall. From my own experience, without an external transmission oil cooler 45000km is far too long - 25000km is more reasonable. The ATF condition check (colour, smell) is the best way to make the decision.

Even though I have a cooler on mine, I still get it flushed every 20,000km.
Also comes down to how you drive the car, do you tow heaps, that sort of thing.
personally i think 20k is just overkill unless your towing something every other day, manual i got here confirms 45k so that is what i will anwser you with

The AWDs, probably due to the extra drivetrain losses and extra weight, seem to have less ATF cooling margin than the FWDs. If you'd seen the ATF that came out of mine after 45000km (no towing either), you'd understand why I don't let it go that long anymore. I now have a tranny cooler too and will still be conservative, because these boxes are hard/expensive to replace.
