Hi all,

I just moved to Oz and bought a 1999 Magna with 109,000km on the clock for $3000. It is registered as a TH Executive but it doesn't have any badges except the Mitsubishi and some stickers with V6Si on them, which could have been added after OEM for all I know. What do you guys think? I know there were Limited Editions of the TH according to Wikipedia known as V6Si but as it doesn't have electric windows I'm assuming it's just an Executive.

I hadn't researched Magnas at all at the time of buying but by chance I think I've got one that has been well looked after (especially in the engine department) at a reasonable price and low kms. The seller said he had it serviced every 10,000kms, but he is not the original owner.

I've already done 1000km on it and it seems to work great, apart from the horn not working which I am having looked at this weekend.

However, as he did not have a log book (or manual!) for it I do not want to take the risk and have it blow up in my face. So, what things should I be looking at having checked at this kind of k's?

I've just bought a second hand owners manual off Ebay and have a workshop manual but haven't had time to read through them yet.

Thanks in advance for the advice,

Matt

Hey mate welcome to the club, id be taking down to a mechanic to have it looks over solidly, last thing u want is to have the engine dropping out the bottom of my car,

id especialy make sure that the timing belt is done and all that 100k stuff that would usualy get done around that point, whenever i see cheap cars around the 100k mark kinda makes me think they would rather sell it than pay to have the 100k service done, that would deffinately be a priority on my to do list.

Welcome to the club once again.

Thanks for the welcome.

I will ask them to check the timing belt when I take it in tomorrow. thanks for the heads up.

The guy that sold it me had it off the road for 3 months as he had another car and this was his now ex wifes, and needed the cash. I don't think he was avoiding a major service but just needed the cash more than keeping it and not using it much anymore, but I will get it checked.

He said he could have got a lot more for it if he had waited but wanted a quick sale. We'll see if he was Bs-ing!

The major service could have been done at 75000k, your mechanic may or may not be able to tell if that's the case.

If it's an auto, I would take it to an auto trans specialist to get the trans flushed and looked over.

It's a manual. Like I said, it seems that I have got a really good deal, but that is purely by accident!

I reckon I could do 80k on it and sell it for more than I paid. Especially as I found it had a 10 disc Sony CD Changer (minus the magazine which I just bought from Ebay), no remote controls (again which I just bought) and no manual (again, just bought).

I'll be a lot more clued up than he is if I do sell it on!!

Treat it nicely and it'll run forever.

Top 3
1) Timing Belt
2) Rubber hoses and engine mount bushes
3) Radiator and heater

These 3 can deteriorate even if KMs are lowish.

Check these and the thing will keep going.
