my son topped up my 2000 magna sports powered steering with a shell brand instead of mitsubishi. Is this okay or does it need a special one.

Power steering fluid is a lot less critical than the fluid used in the Auto trans of the Magna's. Others may be podantic about genuine fluid for P/S but I don't really think it matters as long as it's reasonable quality!

thanks guys! I went off at him a bit so just went and sheepishly told him it was okay, and he didn't have to drain it out after all.

The owners manual says not to use the same fluid you use in the transmission. The Castrol book at work just says to use their generic power steering fluid. Cant remember what the valvoline book says.
