Anyone ever removed the vynil strip (passenger side) along the console of a 2nd gen? It's this bit here, just need some steps of how to be able to get it off, I believe there is a screw to the right side and then 2 wing nuts behind it near the center looking at a manual, just not sure how to access it all to get it all apart.

Never taken one out, but I have one in the shed if you want me to get a pic of the back of it for the screw locations? Something about getting behind it on the passenger door side through the round air vent that lets air go from the dash into the door seems familiar though.

anything helps, my best guess at the moment is I take out the air vents or take off the side glove box and see if I can work around that and look around.

I think:think:........ there is a screw on the left hand side....behind the dash cluster. I only remeber this as i was changing out the dash lights & convertiing them to LEDs.

This is the diagram I got from the Manual, but I am not sure how to access the wing nuts, was just wondering if anyone has done this before if there is a specific way due to things being in the way or something.

Well the retaining screw is easy just remove the cluster to access. Would be interesting to find out how to access the wing nuts. Keep us up to date? How about removing the glove box to gain access?

Take out the glove box, and take the drivers side panel under steering wheel then you should be able to get to the nuts.

yeah I do that myself explore at the wreckers, just when I was picking up parts last time I ran short of time and had to head off so didn't get round to looking for the bits to take it out :P
i did one today! changed it to wood grain.
Take the dash cluster surround off, theres a screw on the left.
Then unscrew the glove box, four black screws on the top, two gold ones on the bottom.
Unbolt the plastic glovebox surround, two black 10mm bolts on the bottom.
Reach your hand up and you'll find two wingnuts, one on the right and one on the left. For the one on the left, you have to put your hand up between the metal bar and the a/c tubing, just have a feel around and you'll find it.
Once their all undone, pull the right hand a/c and clock part out with the surround, and work your way down to the other vent.
When you get to the other vent, try to sort of lever the surround out and pull it towards the drivers side of the car.
And TADA! should be out and ready to paint :)
