:mits:
Thought I'd finally compose a list of averages that companions our 3rd Gen Dyno results.

Here is a defined list of the ‘average’ power at the wheels for the following 3rd Gen Magna’s.
ALL CARS are preferred to be COMPLETELY STOCK! (However, most Manual examples have small modifications.) We need more stock dyno results to improve our knowledge of such output to the wheels.
__________________________________________________ ________________________________
AVERAGE POWER AT THE FRONT WHEELS/ALL WHEELS OF A 3.5lt MAGNA - Manual & Tippy(Auto)

3.5lt AWD 5 Speed Tippy: 101- 104 awkw avg.

3.5lt Exec 5 Speed Tippy 114-121 fwkw avg.

3.5lt Exec Manual: 119-125 fwkw avg.

3.5lt Sports/VR-X 5 Speed Tippy 121-126 fwkw avg.
124 avg
(Our results average this number.)

3.5lt Sports/VR-X Manual: 126-129 fwkw avg.
127 avg
(our results average this number with some modifications.)

3.5lt Ralliart 5 Speed Tippy: 129-135 fwkw avg.

3.5lt Ralliart Manual: 134-142 fwkw avg.

__________________________________________________ _________________________________
Unfortunately most of the dyno results that we have on the 3.5lt Manual’s have been modified in some way. On an average they show 127 fwkw with minimal mods to the exhaust and CAI etc.
Pay most attention to the un-modified results. T_Double_U’s 4 speed tippy achieve’s a similar result to the manual’s with similar mods.

*Most data was used from the AMC database including; 3rd Gen Dyno Results, NSW Dyno Day and other related threads and posts.

Just to clear things up people, results will vary on numerous factors. Therefore this is only a guideline base upon the current results we have in the database so far. We all need to remember that although cars of the same model have the same power specification, they do actually vary. There are too many factors that would make the data difficult to compile accurately so that’s why this is just a basic reflection of our database so far.

1. I think dan's ralliart with 142kwatw had a more agressive tune or something that gave it a bit of extra punch, that cars apparently always been a killer and since it was number 1 ralliart i wouldnt be surprised if something was different. The unknown Ralliart with 134atw is manual but has 20s and runs no performance mods. Me and the other ralliart both have K&N filters and not sure if this lowered our result at all or not.

My magna (with a old stock engine) at the AMC SA Div 2006 dyno day made 137kw@wheels. There was a thread on that dyno day in the SA section.
At that time it was running a high km TJ1 3.5L engine with extractors, stock cat convertor and 2 1/2" exhaust with 2 resonators and magnaflow rear muffler.

What about AWD's? Do we have much data on them?

I dont see the point in this. Dyno measurements taken at different times and on different dynos are pointless especially for providing averages. There is no mention of number of Ks on each engine or age of engines either. A difference of 5kW between two similar models would be in line with normal differences not attributed to the car at all. What you can tell from a selection of numbers though is if your car is under performing by looking at a range of figures rather than an average

Dave, the point is simply an average reference that's all. This was not compiled to prove anything but simply give people a reference point to average atw power figures.

Dave

Yeah this should be a good reference for that, but its not gospel on what powerc you SHOULD make.

For example, both IH8HSV and TJTime ran on the dyno on saturday with 380 engines and both different tunes and other differences. Ben was unhappy that his engine with SKR tune made 4kW less than brendans with ralliart tune, but this only tells a small part of the story. At 4500rpm roughly, bens power was nearly 8kW more than brendans, showing the SKR tune is more focused on improvements across the rev range where it matters most in road drivability. The graph also bulged as it increased rather than a straight line, which points to a stronger torque delivery through the midrange.

I hope you can see where i am coming from now. Peak power doesnt indicate how well an engine performs in day to day driving.

I understand where you’re coming from Dave and totally agree, there are too many factors involved that’s why this database is 'just a reflection' of our results from the AMC data base and should not be taken as gospel.
Totally with you and am aware various tunes will give varied results no doubt about that, that’s why the main focus of this data is really on ‘stock results’ which is why there is a bit of give at either end of the scale due to differentiation in engine Km’s, wear and tear etc. Unfortunately we don’t quite have enough data that also involves all the minute aspects but it’s a good start and gives people a basic idea. This is purely data on a number of dyno results, and 'YES' gives no real benifits to day to day driving or even how well a car will perform in a 1/4 mile run or on the track.

Were on the same page Dave! :D

If it helps Dave, my Ralliart had about 1200kms when i bought off the showroom floor and they immediately took me and the car down to Silverwater Automotive Services for the dyno run to prove to me it actually was a Ralliart and not a kitted up Magna. That was back in 2003 though.

Where I started losing power is where my AFR's crept from 12ish to 14 near 5k RPM. I have a Walbro fuel pump installed now which should correct the underfueling, so I'll get a proper reading for you guys soon.

With my tune, it should be making about 165fwkW.

I have RPW "Shorty" race extractors, a 200cpi "High flow" Venom cat, straight through catback pipe with hollow hotdog resonator with straight through rear muffler with a custom 98 tune.

Brendan has (for now) shimmed up magna exhaust manifolds, original cat, modified catback and 4" cannon with Ralliart Tune. I'm actually really happy it made the power it did with magna bits and pieces. 157kW is what I made with my ralliart tune with the above mods /\

I have pretty much the same mods on my manual 380, plus I have the larger Galant 90mm snorkel.

Made 170fwkw on the SKR dyno about a year ago.

So your estimate of 165fwkw sounds about right, maybe more if you have some induction mods.

Great you could sort that out fellas!

Back on topic... S.A. Dyno adventurers, when you get your results post them up please!
Anyone with a completely stock Magna 3.5lt going on the dyno?

my ralliart pushed 208hp atw with just an exhaust and no filter

completely stock mine went in the 125-130s.. oh i have a cannon but dunno how much difference that makes..

Would be great for people to put up their Dyno charts on the folling thread;
http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64197&highlight=3rd+Gen+Dyno+Results

That way we have the evidence from the dyno results so we can genuinely add it to this list. We also need the specs of the car eg:

Car: 2002 SII VRX
Engine/driveline: 3.5lt 5 Speed Auto
Mods: Stock
Dyno: Dyno dynamics @ K&M performance
Power: 123.8 kwatw

(include how many Kms if possible but not nessisary.)

We're mainly after stock results as various mods will give varied results.
