Hey guys what should I expect to pay for a rebuild on a vrx motor? Or 2nd hand/new etc?

Full (top+bottom) rebuild on my old 3.0 Pajero was approx $3000, plus extra parts that were required eg. Radiator, head work. The price would be similar for the 3.5 depending on exactly whats done/req'd..
2nd hand engines go $500 - $1000 depending on age and kms, some cheaper.
The cost of pallet engine from mits (if they even had stock) would be extreme.

mitsi have 3 short blocks left and no long blocks in the 3.5L (this was 3 weeks ago)

If it's a TJ 3.5l then no difference. You can get 2nd hand engines for less than 500 with low Ks if you look hard enough.
The cams might be different between older engines and newer.

I have an engine out of a KJ Verada (same engine as the VRX) with 182,000kms on it i'm selling atm. $250 and it's yours if you pick it up, i'm in the Campbelltown area.

I only recently had a quote from Engines Direct to rebuild a 6G74 - $4450. Only one of four engine rebuilders to get back to me actually. They're rebuild process seems pretty extensive.

Sounds good. I'll get the car home this week some time and if the motor is rat shit I'll deffinatly buy this. Looks like the vrx motor is seized.

Guys there is a difference with the TJ VR-X motor versus the standard exec motor.
The exec motor pushes out 155Kw and the VR-X 163 KW and the VR-X motor has different cams.

^ I think you will find that is just the difference between the mufflers.

Cams are the same between the two motors.

Rear muffler and tune.
Tune has been questioned though since comparing VRX to Exec there wasn't any noticeable change in maps.
Tune is the same, I have compared every map between them. Difference was exhaust only (not just rear muffler, but whole cat-back).
