Just double check your work, set the engine on tdc with the balancer and take the top covers off and check the cams are lining up with the marks on the rocker covers.
Cheers Dave
Did you line up the dot or the painted mark on the crank.

Hi,
A late reply, but just in case anyone else comes across the same issue. I had the same problem a few years back, also after doing my timing belt. Took it to three mechanics including mitsi service centre and told them timing was out, just check it with a timing light! All came back saying I timing was OK? Thanks to MadMagna who eventually put me onto the solution.
Double check timing with timing light and if it is definitely off then its almost certainly the daisy wheel alignment. The daisy wheel sits behind the crank shaft timing gear and is located by two dowel pins which are too short, they only just engage. If these come out during timing belt change the daisy wheel can slip a few degress. Because the pins are short you can do every thing up tight and not really notice. When I took mine apart the dowel pins where mashed and had left two small indentations in the daisy wheel about 8 deg retarded. Took some work getting the old ones out, and a trip to reco to get replacements. but no real damage. I cut the new ones longer so that the timing cog wont drop back now unless its lined up.
