My gf just bought a new pioneer HU which I'll be installing into her starlet as soon as Im familiar enough with how to do it. I've done 4 HU installs so far, so Im not a newbie. Just wondering if any one has either installed a HU into a starlet before or knows of a good toyota forum or tech article which could help me out.

Cheers.

OK,

Pioneer and Toyota means super easy install. Somewhere you should be able to pull off the surround around the existing stereo, and find the mounting brackets for that. They should screw out, then be able to be screwed off the sides of the factory stereo and screwed straight back into the sides of the Pioneer unit. You would probably notice somewhere on the box or the specs that it will say "Toyota mounting holes". When I did my wife's Vienta, the surround around the stereo just pulled off and the screws were there just waiting for me.

Just as you know already, the fun is finding which speaker wire to connect to.

Go back to where she bought it, hopefully somewhere that does installs, and ask them how to get the factory one out. They should tell you pretty easily.

yeah another question,

my mate has a 93 gt starlet and he has a problem. He cant figure out a way to mount his 6 inch pioneer speakers in the front doors. The only suggestion we have gotten is to buy speaker moulds but they cost nearly as much as the 6 inchs (150 for the moulds). Is there anything he can do to fit the speakers in? If not are there some cheaper moulds he could buy somewhere popular around the Gold Coast / Brisbane area?

Thanx in advance.

Yeah did it all yesterday, very easy install. And the bolt in factor is very handy indeed. I've installed another pioneer unit into a toyota seca before and that bolted straight in aswell. And turns out actually getting the old radio out was the easiest thing to do, took about 2 minutes once I actually had a good look at it.
