hello ive got a 1998 magna stuffed the timing up so took it to my machanic and he done a compression test and set timing but the car will not start he seems to think its a valve if i have started the car when one of the cams were retarted could i have shoot a valve ?

The Magna uses an interference engine which means that if the timing is way out and you start the car, it is possible for a valve to hit a piston and bend the valve.

A valve? Try all of the intake (or exhaust) valves! There's 12 of each. The heads get bent and won't seal anymore.

Kevron, what did the compression test show? That will DEFINITELY tell you if you have bent valves in any of the cylinders.

Your "machanic" set the timing? lol Clever trick!

OP indicates car was taken to mechanic after timing was stuffed up.......

Then the "machanic" has re done the timing..

But it still won't start.. Issue is valves goneskies..

Why bother if the compression test came up with a bunch of zeros?

bud i work a lot he called my up said he had set some issues he had to take one of the cam cover of reset the timing chain cause it was 10dgrees retarted done a compression test on the front three pistions all good set the timing and gave it a crank it wont start he seamed to think the re was a bent valve quetion would a diagnostics test show what was wrong?

"he had to take one of the cam cover of reset the timing chain "

Did I hear that right?

I'd guess that your mechanic will do a compression test on all cylinders again - if one or more cylinders are down on compression that would indicate either a bent valve or the valve timing on the rear bank of cylinders.
A 'diagnostics test' will only show electrical problems, not mechanical problems. If the compression on all cylinders is good, then the no start problem may lie either with ignition or fuel supply.
If your mechanic is familiar with Magna V6 engines then I'd say you must trust him. I hope it all comes good for you.

It sounds like the OP is not very car savvy which is fine, lets not take the micky out of his lack of knowledge guys, this is why he is here asking for help

Now the car itself, sounds like it has compression so there can be a few factors stopping it from starting

Get your mechanic to check spark and injector pulse, if both are present then he will need to check the cam and crank are timed correctly. If there is no fuel or spark could be something simply like a bad ignition coil or crank angle sensor or for that matter could also be the immob playing up

I was just stating what he said because people didnt seem to understand..

Timing belt was done
Timing was wrong
Car went to mechanic
Timing was redone
Vehicle still not starting..

So the car is turning over but not kicking..?

Compression Test - Done and No Issue

Next thing to look at is Spark & Fuel..
