Hi all, just wondering if anyone knows how to remove the crankshaft pulley on a Verada 3.5. the Haynes manual says to chock the pulley by putting a bar through it and jam it against the motor but the pulley on my car does not have any holes that go right through so I can't do that, anyone have any ideas? cheers

I've made a tool up, but I guess you can put a breaker bar on it and crank the motor for a tick.

What savage says use abreaker bar wedge it agaist the ground and crank the engine for a sec or alternatively use a rattle gun much easier.

Thanks for the reply, i don't have a rattle gun so I guess i might try the breaker bar, I was just worried doing this may damage the starter or something else, but I guess I'm worried about nothing, cheers

Get a rattle gun and compressor anyway. You will need it to put it back on. lol
There are other ways to undo/do up the bolt.
(1) Remove sump and place a block of wood between a crank weight and the block - only really good when the engine is out of the car.
(2) Manual - put it in 4th, apply brakes, use breaker bar to undo, torque wrench to do up.
(3) Breaker bar wedged against ground or body work, wind starter - done this on TS V6 and TJ 3.5, no damage done but then you can't do this to do it up again.
(4) Auto - remove cover plate, pull one of the torque converter bolts out, use a longer one to lock that end of the crank.

Thanks MadMax, you have given me some great ideas there, cheers

Next time I need to do this job on an auto I will use method (4), as I like to get the torque right on that crank bolt. Used a cheap rattle gun when I did my TJ cam belt, seems to be holding up ok, but you never know.
My wife's Lancer is a manual, should be easy in comparison - when I get around to it. lol

Yes number 4 is the one I was thinking of, my only concern is I'm worried the bolt may break off in the torque converter when I'm doing up crankshaft bolt, what are the chances of that happening do you think MadMax? shame my car isn't a manual, would make life easier, cheers

It's a method recommended by Mal (MadMagna, of Mitsufix fame) and I haven't tried it. Maybe PM him?
