Hey everyone. I need a little advice on a couple of things.

My auto transmission needs to be serviced.

So I was wondering what type of auto transmission oil should I use? How do I drain and flush it?

What brand of transmission filter (oil filter?) should I get. Around how much is an auto pan gasket?

Thanks. :bowrofl:

I know that's quite alot of questions and I don't expect someone to answer everything, but any help whatsoever will be appreciated. :D

I am being quoted $130-140 for an auto transmission service. Is this worth it, or would it be better if I do it myself? If it's not that much cheaper to buy all the parts, I might just get someone to do it for me.

Thanks again.

There is more to an auto trans service than just an oil flush - there are filters that need to be replaced, and bands to be tightened. Would suggest someone who knows what to do...

Yes, for a proper service like that, mitsu will actually outsource it to an autotrans specialist.
Mitsu will only change the oil and oil filter.

Yeah, just called up an auto transmission specialist. Booked the car in already. They gave me a pretty good price of $99.

I guess that's not bad for getting someone who specifically does automatic transmissions to fiddle with it instead of a generic service place.

Also, found out that we don't have auto pan gaskets. I know very little about auto transmissions.

Just make sure they use the mitsu specified oil and filter. I know the magna auto's are VERY fussy when it comes to oil. But for $99 jesus nothing wrong with that price

Yeah best to have it done by a pro. Mitsis charged me $175. So me spew at you (insert vomiting smiley here).
I was looking at doing my own but went to Mitsi so as not to "void my warrenty".

Doing it yourself has to be done at "driving temperature" so if you're on axel stands or ramps, you only have a few inches in which to dodge trans fluid coming at you at 150 degrees, and you trying to catch it in a little pan whilst not getting scalded. Pay the pro to take the risk!

Automatic transmission service hey, well this is my 2 cents worth.
All they do on a basic service is drop the pan, drain the oil, stick a new filter in and wack a new gasket on.
New cars these days don't have bands to adjust, all they do is look inside and make sure there is nothing obviously wrong and put the pan back on.

I would do it myself but my car is still under warranty.

Good luck

get the castrol ATF TQM-ST. mitsu told me it's the exact same one they are using. i would recommend you bought your own ATF and tell the guys to top it up using that. i am pretty sure those guys just top it up with generic ATF, which the magna certainly wouldn't like. they might even put in power steering fluid  ... won't be surprised. pay less, expect less :D
