how much would it cost to replace a valve in a 3.5 ltr from a machanic?

Lots. The head(s) need to come off, valve seat recut, new valve, new set of gaskets. Why not get a quote from a "machanic", or even a "mechanic"?

What valve needs replacing, and why do you think it needs replacing?

Would it be worth an engine transplant?

Maybe he means a maniac?

Nope.

Nope.

He has another thread going where he mentions the maniac (?) or machanic (?) has done a compression test. BUT he doesn't bother to say what it shows . . . . . No info = No accurate responses.

^Fair enough, but if he's replacing one valve from way-out-of-wack timing then there's more likely going to be most or all of the valves stuffed. Would the pistons have been damaged by such impact? If they're needing replacement too he could be racking up the bill.

How much does a second hand 6G74 go for? I saw one for ~250 a little while ago, though it was part of a package sale.

Yes the pistons would be scored too.
