Poor bugger I know despoerately trying to sell his Verada, even th eprice is cheap, but I was talking to him yesty and the thing wont start. It turns over but wont fire.
i went and had a look for him after work today. Its getting spark and there is fuel in the rail, so somewhere along the line I assume the injectors arent doing their job.
Anyone know what the prob could be, and how much is up for? I'd like to try and help, even if its just to get the ECU out for a part number....
Its a 97 KE 3.5

More than likely its the immobiliser stopping it from starting its a common problem.

Is it turning over fast or slowly? I have the same issue with my KE motor turns very slowly until battery dies have been told its likely the starter motor

Funny thing actuall regarding the immobiliser. My TH has the full alarm/immo that I think they all have which has the green SECURITY light on the dash. I got in his Verada, put the window down, the locked it with the key. This light didnt come on the dash, but the stereo red led started. I then unlocked it form the inside and the alarm didnt go off.
he said that hes never noticed this light on the dash. DO TE/KEs have this. I would assume a Verada would have had an alarm. He has no fobs.
How do I fix this?

Winds over properly. Then we started to kill the battery so we put the one from my Cooner in it and it was cranking uber fast, but just no fire.

If its not the imobiliser, Could be a sticky valve, no compression, how often does he change the oil?
It's probably the ignition coil. My KE was starting to have issues with this when I updated. Basically stops the ECU from reading the code in the key head, at least that's my understanding, so the immobilizer doesn't disengage. My temp fix was to give the ignition column a couple of good shunts with an open palm then trying to turn it over, worked a charm 9 times out of 10.
As for the green security light comment, KE's don't have an alarm so yes it's perfectly normally for no light to be coming on in the cluster, as is being able to unlock it from the internal door switches when you've locked it from outside. The remote is nothing more than keyless entry, it doesn't arm any alarm.

So was it the coil or the column? (or both?)

Ig coil is in the dist, what Lugo was referring to was the antenna in the column
The main issues with these is the immob unit located under the console, take out the ashtray, give the black box on the RHS a few good shoves, put in the key and try that. If this fixes then there is a fix for the immob but you do need to know how to repair circuit boards to fix this yourself

But referring back to the older post, the KE has no immobiliser

Under console area, there is a cross beam, there will be to the RHS a black box, this is the immob unit
There inside this unit is a crystal timer, toward the back of the board, these can come loose on the solder, resolder this timer crystal and often your starting issues will be solvered
