Hi All,
iam in the middle of doing my rocker cover gaskets.( i get about 1 hour each arvo to this work) started monday & now @ this stage)
come across this problem,
When you then do the rocker covers, there is a hose that goes from one cover to the other, is on the LHS of the car, has a clip you need to undo and is a prick to get off as the rubber goes hard also. The rear one is under the coolant pipe (metal one) Remove the hose from the top of the rear rocker cover and keep aside. Remove the top bolts from the timing covers (you do not need to if you do not want to but makes it all easier) and each cover has 12mm bolt as well.
has any body got any tips on how to get them off. !!!!!!
thanks in advance,
TJBEAR
Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated

Sorry to confuse, the rubber breather hose that goes from one rocker to other one.
Just thinking how would a hair dryer onto the end of the hose, would it create enough heat to soften the rubber enough to be able get them off.
cheers

i doubt whether a hair drier would provide sufficient heat for what you need, do you have a heat gun?
getting them off is not usually the problem, its getting them back on without splitting that causes issues.
maybe start the car and get it to running temp and wilst hot remove them then, then heat the hose somehow (microwave?) and replace wilst hot so as not to split it.

If they have gone so hard that they don't just pull off, its time for new ones - just slice the old ones down their length at the spigot and they come off easy. Some fuel line the same internal diameter will do as a replacement.

bust or cut off then renew with new hose repco or the like. I used 1/2inch or so heater hose on my TH and yes you purists i know it will go soft but hey it will last longer than my TH with 280,000 on the clock.

If you have a choice, the best hose to get is the one used on the trans oil coolers, next is fuel line, next is heater hose. Using heater hose is still better than having an old hose split on you and making a mess inside the engine compartment, or making the car run lean. lol

Why not disconnect the hose from the front bank and undo the rocker cover bolt. Then remove the cover with the hose still attached?

Hi all, OOOOPPSS I dropped a bolt, the last bolt putting pelum thing back on & dropped the last bolt,it went through the hole @ the front bewteen intake manifold & down into the valley,
question will it do any damage down there??
cheers tjbear
WTF is with all the "use generic hose" suggestions, stop being cheapasses and order the damn mits replacement hose. It's like $20! It is a bad idea to use generic hose as there is like a 90 degree bend in the hose.
The breathers being blocked is the reason rocker cover gaskets blow in the first place, adding restriction by bending a generic hose and reducing internal diameter is the last thing you want to do!

Nope
Generic hose is ok. Buy it by the meter, don't kink it and keep the spare length in the boot. That way, you always have spare hose, and don't waste time if you think it has clogged up.
