Does anyone know if the wavespring issue is specific to the TJ/TH era of 3rd gen Magna's.

I'm pretty sure the main problem was the internal oil filter/pump causing a catastrophy when the wavespring goes out, whereas the TF/TE have an external oil filter.

Am I wrong?

but in all the threads, it only seems to happen to tj/th owners, theres nil reports of tf magna with wavespring issues on the net. but you would know!

I have a TH with the external filter

A few auto recon places put in the 4cyl auto wave thingy, 4cyl it was a solid piece is steel, 3rd gens it was a 2-3 coil spring? This is what I have been told a few times even by a well know mitsu wrecker in adelaide

to be honest, if you own any car, wave spring or not...how many kilometers are you expecting to get out of an auto box?. its not going to last forever, you see many posts about the wave spring here, and all of them have gone in to hysterics. did you know every auto box has a wave spring? i wouldn't be worried about this so called "issue" its an auto box, it will give problems if not looked after. and im not saying this because i dont have problems with my auto, i do, it slips every so often, but then my TF started its life off as a hire car and has over 200 0000ks. manual canversion here i come :)

It unfortunately is more of an issue with Magna's, yes, more prone on the 4sp with no filter and the 5sp as well, I think the issue is the fact there is not fine particle filter and also the lack of cooling for the trans as well, customers cars I have fitted coolers and filters to have not so far had issues and the fluid stays clean so much longer as well but I have had several here where the wave spring has let go, this is often the cause of the oil pump letting go as well
