My battery went dead so i replaced with a $66 big w battery and i have no cranks and fails to turns over. is there anything i need to do after a battery change and what would ya suggest to get it cranking over again?
Measure the voltage of the battery. I believe that your $66 battery is flat as well. Put it on a charger untill fully charged.

Do you see any lights in the instrument cluster when at ON position? If not, have you got the polarity of the battery correct? if yes, clean the terminal contacts and spray some WD40 or equivilent.
Is the car in "Park"?

i checked the new battery and its only 280CCA and i was wondering if that is enough power to start the starter motor?

Don't buy Big W batteries. I work for them and we have no policies in terms of charging or throwing them out. bring it back and we will be happy to refund it for you. Places like supercheap auto replace their batteries every 3 months.

280CCA is no where near enough to crank our motors
Need atleast 450CCA to get you started
If on a budget go out and buy a repco battery or something, otherwise pay alittle more and get a supercharge gold battery (they are 600CCA)

I think the humming sound is the fuel pump. It may be something to do with the immobiliser or inhibitor switch. Does it start in neutral with the handbrake on?

Would be a very good idea to check the fuses!
My starter motor died a few months ago, didn't make any noise when I tried to start the car. Thought it was the battery so I push started it, but realised it was the starter when it wouldn't start when we tried to jump start it! Has the starter been struggling recently?
Might be a fuse or immob problem though.....

Sounds like starter motor mate. Pretty easy to take out - disconnect the wire then I believe it's just 2 bolts.

Yeah mine was doing this for a few weeks before the starter died.... was like rrr-rrr-rrr--rrr- vrrooommm! Same symptoms of a dying battery...
If its a manual you could try and roll start it, gotta be careful when doing this though, gotta make sure you can stop the car safely if it doesn't start!
