i'm looking at buying a new sub and amp. the stores here are pretty limited so to buy locally i'm limited to sony, pioneer, eclipse, mtx, panasonic, blaupunkt and lanzer.
i've been looking at getting a Alpine type-r 12" and a MRD-M1000 monoblock and a stinger 1.5 farad cap. i can get these for about $1800.
So the question is... for about $2000 what can i get thats gonna go harder than that combo?
i don't mind mail ordering stuff (if from reputable dealers). keep in mind that i'm after BIG bass atm. the sub will be boxed properly (i'm pretty handy building boxes).
so let the suggestions flow, whats good? what to steer clear from?
cheers
Tim

replace that Type R with a JL w6 and the other grand get yourself a JL 1000.1 no need for capacitor.
or you can try some other amp.

Im not at all an Alpine man.. so I'm definetely gonna go with mercury on the JL's! I've sold both of mine! I had a JL15W0 that now belongs to a guy on CAA and also I used to have a JL10W3D2V2 which now belongs to Nick_ off these forums! I've never come across anything like the JL subs in this price bracket, Yes I may be biased coz I still own 2 and they have lasted me ever since I was 13! Not long but long enough..
The W6s are such an awesome model.. Definetely worth looking into!

Hey dude, talk to Fhrx (www.fhrxstudios.com) for mail order stuff. I'm sure you can do better than the Alpine gear, and fhrx rates high on my list of reputable dealers. :D
If you are after big bass i wouldn't be going for either JL Audio or Alpine. Both are awesome sounding subs, don't get me wrong, but as far as SPL goes, there are other brands that can do it for ya.
I'd suggest 2x12" Cadence Wild Beasts running off of the Cadence Z7000. That'll give you about 1400wrms and with a bit of wheeling and dealing you should be able to get it in your price range.
I'd also suggest checking out kicker and MTX, as they are both known for loud subs.
Lastly i'd suggest Fusion, excellent bang for your buck.
cheerio,
Cam.

Just in case anyone is interested in what I recommended, I suggested he split the price up in spending $1000 on the amp and $800 on sub(s).
Amplifiers I recommended are:
Zapco 1100.1
Phoenix Gold X1200.1
Audison LRx1.400
Boston GT-24
ARC Audio KAR900.1D
Vibe MB4
Diamond Audio D5600.1
Digital Designs M1
As for subwoofers, I suggested he stick to a 12" or two unless the budget could be doubled. Another option is to built the system in stages. Some subs suggested are:
Boston Pro12.5LF
Image Dynamics IDQ12
Phoenix Gold X12
Diamond M612
Hertz HX300D
Vibe Space12
Digital Designs 3512
Focal 33A

well i been on CAA all day and they seem to think the best idea is a DD9512 and 2x Caliber CA2000D+. good for 2500WRMS @ 2ohm apparently and they are .5ohm stable.
that works out at about $2200ish.
excellent (in mr burns voice)
ohh Fhrx... could u pm me what a DD9512 would set me back???
