Hi all,
Got a problem with my Dads TJ MYO2 3.5L Advance. Mum filled it up on thursday night - full tank. They drove it around town yesterday, and on the way home Dad was saying he could see the fuel gauge dropping. This morning the gaugue reads empty and the fuel low light is on - permanently. No smell of petrol anywhere, no sign of fuel leak anywhere.
My theory is a fault in teh fuel gaugue thingy in the tank or an electrical faiure in dash or in teh computer. Was thinking the best way to test would be to drive to the petrol station and fill her up. At the moment I'm too scared to test my "electrical failure theory" for fear of becoming a fireball!

Just wondering if anyone knows if there has been an issue with dodgy fuel gauge readings with TJ series 2's! For a gauge to fall whuilst driving short distance ain't good!
Trip computer reads 44.4km on this fill, with 5L remaining in tank!

Just about two months ago the same thing happened to my 03 TJ. In the middle of nowhere, about 20km out from the station I'd just filled her up at and down...slowwly... goes the gauge. "What crap fuel this is  " I moaned to myself. Then 5 kays on the gauge steadily dropped, on came the little red lamp and range to Empty flashing (means less than 50ks to empty). Anyway, I continued and filled up ($7.00 filled that tank!!) and the gauge was fine for another 10kays when it started to drop again.

Mitsu replaced the tank floater and all has been well ever since. I'll speculate your probs lie there also.

I had a similar problem....I was driving down the hume highway, with half a tank of fuel, when it suddenly dropped to empty, 10 minutes later it went back up to half!

I took the car to Mitsubishi, and they replaced the "Fuel Sender Unit" under warranty... :)

Mitsi replaced the "Fuel Sender Unit" today. It tested faulty. The service guys said it was a known problem in the TJ. All done under warrenty.
