Hi All,

I am taking a big step and attempting to fluch my radiator - something I have neglected to do for the past 10 years

Anyway, I have bought Repco Longlife green coolant (HAT) and radiator flushing fluid. I have a list of steps from Nulon on how to proceed to do it. I have also located the drain tap at the left hand bottom (if facing the engine). I have been advised to use de-mineralized water, with rain water being recommended (I have a 8000 litre tank ).

The only thing stopping me is that I do not know the total coolant capacity of this vehicle. the reason I need this is because I would be first filling in the concentrate and then topping up with rain water, I would need to know how much concentrate would be required for a 40-50% concentration.

Not 100% about coolant capacity but thought I should mention, your Magna isn't designed to run on 98 octane unless you've had it tuned.

You should be putting in 91 octane since that's what the car's tuned for, and since it has no knock sensor putting in higher grade fuel is a waste of money.

Hi, I think there is some confusion here. The "98 Oct" stands for "1998 October" and represents the year in which the car was manufactured. Thank you for your reply though, as knowledge is never wasted.

Coolant capacity is 9.5 litres.

I mix it in a coke bottle. 2L at a time, tedious, but then you know you have the ratio correct.

Coolant capacity is 9.5 litres. - thanks for that caz_375

XiLurk: I mix it in a coke bottle. 2L at a time, tedious, but then you know you have the ratio correct. - actually, if you are flushing your system, you would have to add the correct quantity of concentrate FIRST, and then top up with demineralized water/rain water. The reason for this, is that you need to account for some plain water being left inside the collant pathways. If you premix and then add, you might actually end up with a slightly lesser strength of coolant than you anticipated.
Yes, once you have filled up your cooling system, you would only top up with premixed solution, for which, I would definitely take your advice of a coke bottle

hey man if you want to get it ALL out you will have to remove drains on both banks(front and rear of motor, trans end of bank, halfway down block). There will be a liter in each bank. rear one is a real bitch to get at and there dam tight!!!

I use a long life coolant that is ok to use with tap water. I drain the radiator while cold, top up with tap water, then run the engine until the coolant in the radiator turns green (ie its mixed). Repeat several times. On the last drain, I add concentrate enough for 10L (cooling system + overflow), then top up with tap water. The overflow gets taken off the car and washed out, then refitted and filled to the full level with tap water. As trapped air leaves the cooling system the level in the overflow tank drops a lot, this gets topped up with tap water.
